I think they genuinely tried to have someone who knew how funny trump was by being himself, which is something Shane has said and probably did say on his audition. @@jyo9735 it’s a weird dynamic that just doesn’t make sense. Imagine writing a joke that isn’t just clean, but aligns with the company’s DEI statement and ESG goals. Then your own company makes a remote that has a button that you can press and say, “TH-cam, Norm McDonald.” And your competing with Norm, the most canceled man in the universe.
Their only saving grace is the drama geek stuff. They can get a celebrity who can sing while doing backflips. They can expose talentless hacks from Hollywood. They have a costume budget.., and the writing environment, while it produces hot garbage, seems to be like a boot camp for training young wild people on how to write a script that can actually get made after they leave SNL, or how to write fluff that will get their kids medical insurance.
