    Nice video. This reminds me of the first time I saw mopeds in 1977 in Brooklyn NY. We were able to rent them for $10. / hour but after many accidents and complaints the city outlawed moped rentals. Still many people in the 70s rode mopeds. Last night while in Brooklyn on the 58 street pier I saw a group of moped riders. One had a vintage 1977 Puch. I stopped by where they were on the 58 street pier and spoke to them they say they are the Sunset Riders. They all had cool mopeds. They were pretty cool. It brought back memories of when I was a kid. I hope more people ride the vintage mopeds. I was told mopeds are making a comeback.
    No not the electric ones the real ones 2 cycle gas mopeds! Let’s hope they are right about that.

      The seal is: 16x24x7 Their are numerous shaft options… 240mm is for A35 no oil pump. 260mm is for A35 with oil pump. 270mm might be for A55 with oil pump (not 100% sure). And they have a 340mm for the Streetmate. I know for sure there are at least 2 more sizes. Not sure where they fit in the mix.

    Hoping I can save someone a lot of time and money. I'm about $500 deep in this conversion and need more parts now. I have a 1999 targa kick start that I was trying to convert to pedal start. After getting all the parts I needed (or so I thought) I found clutch material was shot and a few other parts needed replacing. I also had the unfortunate luck of having a clutch cover that required machining so had that done at a local shop. Got the new clutch parts and went to install everything and found the gear behind the "dog leg" gear does not exist on mine. You can see in the video at 3:56 the gear in the transmission stays in place on the tomos in the video. This is the "main drive gear" Mine doesn't have that, it's just a smooth face on the main drive gear. So I'm at a point now that I wish I never saw this video and saved myself $500+. I've now got a moped I can't drive as I've got a hole machined in the cover so I can't convert back to a kickstart and I can't finish the pedal conversion without further disassembly and buying even more parts. I have to spend another $200 to get this back on the road as the main drive gear I need is $150 plus shipping to canada.
    Love your guys videos but wish I knew this info going into it.

    • @MopedProblems
      @MopedProblems  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I appreciate what you’re saying. Sounds like the conversation revealed maintenance issues that needed to be done. Good thing you caught it when you did, missing clutch material will lead to the clutch shoes over expanding and become unhinged, as well metal on metal rubbing with the clutch bell.
      The machining of the clutch cover probably cost a bunch, sorry to hear that. But if you need to stick with kickstart, all you need is an aluminum plug to block off the machined part. I have a couple laying around if you need one.

    I remember back when tomos was distributed by STR in Spartanburg SC same lady always answered the phone and took your part orders. It looked like Tomos was going to make a comeback but the Indian made mopeds and cheap Chinese scooters killed them. Tomos had a great history including making licenced Norton motorcycles I had a Tomos made 850 back in the 90's great bike. And I still have my bullet TT

    Hi @Moped Problems I found your channel not long ago, keep up the good work, I really enjoy the videos 👍
    After watching your vids, I decided to buy a tomos a35 quadro, from the early 90's with kickstart. I can't wait to start restoring it back to it's old glory but I got a major issue, I don't know where the vin number is located, and there's so many layers of paint, so I don't know where to start looking for it. So I really hoped that you had the easy answer to that? 🤷

    How about converting a single-speed, pollution-belching 2-stroke "moped" to a more efficient, cleanly 4-stroke with 4-speed [semi-automatic] (no clutch operation needed) transmission? You know... like a Honda Cub or "mini-moke"/"pit bike"--or their clones-have. And they'll get less complaints from neighbors over noise, too.😕
