    Aim. For. The. Center.

      LOL: trouble is, if you aim for the center, you won't have anyone to vote for.

    LOL: it's kinda sad that I had to resort to youtube to "figure out" how to slice a bagel. But I come here for virtually all other 'how to' matters, so why not slicing a bagel? Thanks, it works perfectly and I didn't slice my hand. REALLY: thanks!

    Damn I spent my entire life just lazily cut bagels from the side without looking and getting uneven sides

      The past is gone, the future has yet to be, but set your focus for the now, and aim for the center. May your travels through time be marked with evenly cut bagels.

      You know, sometimes, I aim slightly off to the side, just to make people think I'm losing it, and then I get right back to the center and go hard.

    Thanks John :) How do you cut with a plastic knife tho 😅

    • @JohnSmith-mf6tq
      @JohnSmith-mf6tq  2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Seeing that you lack a proper knife, I can only assume that you must be in England. I'm sorry this video's verbiage isn't applicable to you. I will do my best to explain it in a properly English way, using familiar colloquialisms. Ahem.
      It's elementary: Simply divide crosswixt the beholed boiled and baked torus with the paltry polymer implement in a robust ring-around-the-rosie fashion, being cautious to direct it meticulously with your silly sausage fingers halfway betwixt the thatch top and the bummy-boot, as you ever so slightly cleft the crust and Oliver twist it roundabout until Bob's your uncle.

      @@JohnSmith-mf6tq Perfect, honestly. The more the merrier. Unfortunately in the US a lot of us weren’t taught food prep skills or cooking in general, and your teaching style I can see resonates with a lot of people. It reminds me of the channel ‘you suck at cooking’ but way more grounded. Like an uncle teaching us. I will never forget how to cut a bagel after only one watch!

  • @violetviolet888
    @violetviolet888 ปีที่แล้ว

    No. The safest and easiest way to cut a bagel is a two-step process:
    Start with the bagel lying flat, a serrated bread knife in your dominant hand. Position the knife parallel to your cutting surface and make a careful horizontal cut that goes about halfway through the bagel.
    Without removing the knife, stand the half-cut bagel up on its side, holding it by the top end to keep it steady. Work the knife down towards the cutting board, cutting the rest of the way through the bagel.

    • @JohnSmith-mf6tq
      @JohnSmith-mf6tq  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I never made any claims about the safety of the technique, but if I may critique the technique you've presented;
      It's harder to aim for the center when you're not looking inline with your cut - less safe. Having to apply force horizontally to the knife while simultaneously moving it back and forth and compensating for the pull of gravity - less safe. Presumably you're holding the bagel steady with your off-hand, where the digits might slip down into the path of the cut - less safe. Your off-hand has to apply more force to the bagel to stabilize it from the rocking (caused my the sawing motion), and the horizontal push - more force of the hand pushing towards the cut line - less safe.
      Try aiming for the center and get back to me with how safe you feel with that technique.

    @JohnSmith-mf6tq Bro thank you so much for this quick bagel life hack. I tried it out this morning on my Blueberry bagel, and it worked. I used a butter knife to do it. I didn't cut too deep in the center. Eventually, the bagel came apart. In 2 perfect halves before i plopped them in the toaster.
