- Was the most famous dress in American history damaged when Kim Kardashian wore it? That's the question being asked about the iconic beaded Marilyn Monroe gown Kim wore to the 2022 Met Gala. The dress was only worn once by Marilyn. New side-by-side photos of the dress, taken before and after Kim wore it, appear to show the stretched fabric and missing beads. The iconic designer Bob Mackie, who created the dress, said letting Kim wear it was a "big mistake."
The fact they allowed her to wear such a historic piece is wrong in itself. They shouldn’t have let her wear it in the first place.

The people who lived back then would be surprised to see how much people in the modern day revere her. The first I saw KK trying to squeeze that ridiculous figure of hers into Marilyn's iconic one of a kind dress I could almost hear the fabric tearing. I learned as a teenager to never allow a person with a different body type than mine to borrow my clothes. I allowed a friend to borrow some clothes. I was toothpick thin. My friend was average size with curves. My clothes were stretched after she wore them.

This was a dress that we talked about in my fashion photography class that is how historically significant this dress is. It had three whole pages dedicated to it detailing all the ways that the dress was created and how something like this should be photographed and understanding the context of why it's so important. For Kim Kardashian just to wear that when she could just go to some other designer and say I want this make me a version of this that works for my body type but instead goes and wears a piece of fashion history makes my blood boil because now it's damaged and getting that thing repaired if it's even possible to repair is going to cost a fortune and you know she isn't going to Shell out for that.

IMO, Kardashian owes Ripley Entertainment $5 million for making the dress literally unwearable now and ruining the historical value of the dress. I would actually make her pay $20 million since she can afford it.
They made a big deal about saying that if it looked like it wasn't going to fit, etc that she would not be allowed to wear it. The day of, she still couldn't completely fit into it, and they let her wear it for a short while anyway. Then she changed into a replica.
That statement would work against them in court when it came to getting damages.

It's IMPOSSIBLE to wear ANY clothing without damaging it. Every second any clothing is on your body, it is deteriorating. The older the fabric the more damage is being done. If it's something old of no historical importance, who cares, but this dress IS OF HISTORICAL VALUE. Just horrible
