A quick and dirty way to recover the old file explorer ribbon, though the change is temporary and is discarded when you exit file explorer, is to: 1 Bring up File Explorer. 2 Tap the Up Arrow in the navigation ribbon to bring up the Desktop. 3 Select the displayed Control Panel icon (it still uses the old Windows 10 Explorer scheme). Thx a lot. The |W11 copy of Macs look| is not working. Windows should have options features at hand to choose from. It's becoming inefficient. If I want simple and clean I use my Mac.
By now the phrase 'there's a registry fix for that' should be common IT parlance. Why oh why should the end-user have to live in the registry simply to get their system working the way it used to? Still, you saved my sanity with this!

I have over 100 Tiles/Icons on my Start Menu in 10, nicely sized and organized/grouped how I want, it's FAST and EASY to use. *11's Start Menu is also completely UNUSABLE...!*
Why can't Microsoft just put the option to change in the settings, so people can just click on a box without downloading third party software or messing with the registry? If they really didn't want you to change it, they wouldn't have made it possible to do so in the first place.

Oh, did I welcome this fix to return File Explorer from Win11 to the Win 10 format. But, while I faithfully followed the second option in the video that is the 'string' option, it did not work. I cannot explain this apart from finding already a 'Blocked' file in 'Shell Extensions'. First I simply created within this another string as shown in the video and when this failed to make the changes, I deleted this and created a new file, 'Block2' and again inputted the string value. No success, re-starting the desktop gave me again the Win11 File Explorer. I wanted this because Win 11 File Explorer just about fell-apart after I deleted 'OneDrive' which was giving me a headache and it seems to others. Any suggestions will make me very grateful but, I am not good at working on the under-belly of programmes, I'm just a user albeit since Win3.n when I had to think a bit more.
This workes. I used your registry hack Superb. Thanks. Thanks. Its a pity there isn't a way to restorew the old tile style start menu, and enable it to be used on full screen.
I had a big windows 11 update today that reverted many of my mods to make my desktop look classic. This was one of them. When I opened Winaero it said there was an update so I downloaded that. When I opened it though, the option to enable the ribbon ui was no longer there. Do you know if they changed the name or removed it?
I just found out the hassle to disable grouping in the taskbar the "hack" and some call it, is just too annoying to do, just to keep windows the way I want it. that is the highest deal breaker for me, I have hated the grouping since windows 7, and now it seems Microsoft is removing that feature smh..
OMG, here we go again with those that should just stay with Windows 10 if you do not understand progress and simplifying things. Microsoft gave hundreds of thousands of questions and design likes and dislikes surveys, including betas, and the majority likes the new Windows 11 toolbar in file explorer. It is more simple, and cuts out the majority of crap we do not use in any version. Also, what you are saying about when you change this, it disables other things very important. Yeah, just what I was talking about. Anyways, the main reason you ALWAYS upgrade your version of Windows when a new full version comes out is security and being up to date. And that requires you will have to upgrade your computer most likely. Enable secure boot and TPM 2.0, which should already be done prior to installing Windows 11 anyways, as this is really required. I also recommend enabling ransomware and core isolation memory protection in the Windows settings and using what is built into Windows with the firewall and anti-virus/anti-malware (keep all of Windows current and up to date weekly) and just run something simple like the Eset free security scanner once a month. Do not install third party anti virus programs! Just upgrade the computer every 5 years or less, and you will be fine. That is why I have custom builds. Much easier and better.
You can't buy a replacement laptop with Windows 10 any more. I deal with elderly people who just want to send/receive email and browse the news and maybe TH-cam. Win 11 is a nightmare for them and it ties up all of my time.
Why MS does not install an app with Win11 that allows the user to make these minor GUI changes to WIN 10 Style, it seems petty minded to me. What is it they want to do - make users spend time learning or becoming familiar with a new interface? In this example a change in the registry surely does not add any overhead or decrease the performance of a computer.
Thanks man, worked like a charm! 😁 But if you allow me to make an observation... what the heck is that string on the Registry?! What that does even mean?? 😂 Just why Microsoft does things this way?? I mean... I do believe that it makes things hard even for MS Team to know what's going on. If at least Windows could have something as simple as DConf and/or save it's fukin' (excuse the curse word) configs into plain text files instead of binary life would be a lot easer.
This was a great hack, unfortunately, the manual registry tweak does not work on any one of my win 11 devices. In addition, the version of Winaero no longer has the "enable ribbon" function under the "Windows 11" left column options. Pity, really. I guess I'll be rolling back to Win 10 on the lot of them.
exactly. i have the same problem.tried both ways. but to no avail. and the annoying part is, my folder up button is also missing. any help with the folder up button?
Thanks so much for this. Over time, I get a nice workflow going. Then when I have to buy a new machine, low and behold Windows has once again 'fixed' what wasn't broke, and FUBAR my workflow. They don't even offer a 'revert to older interface' option. That s**t really tightens my jaw. I need a f**king drink, now.
Exactly. When Win 10 came out everyone wanted it to look like Win 8.1 or Win 7, yet now that Win 11 has come out, everyone wants it to look like Win 10. I'd rather just get on with it, rather than being in a '1 version back looking' time warp.
@@chrisg6597 a lot of IT requires adaptation to changing systems. Otherwise why not just stick with xp? These same people that complain are the same people who don't update for years and then wonder why their system is rammed full of malware.

I just found out the hassle to disable grouping in the taskbar the "hack" and some call it, is just too annoying to do, just to keep windows the way I want it. that is the highest deal breaker for me, I have hated the grouping since windows 7, and now it seems Microsoft is removing that feature smh..
Is there anyway you can get rid of the gap between opening the start menu or any app and the taskbar?
Win 11 is a nightmare for them and it ties up all of my time.
greatits work tnx❤
I will try this. Video has no sound or printer instructions. Not sure if I delete it after I set it up.
open control panel go to windows tools click on this pc see the classic ribbon file explorer in windows 11 file explorer
Thanks!
Thanks for the donation 🍺
Thanks man, worked like a charm! 😁
But if you allow me to make an observation... what the heck is that string on the Registry?!
That's the best option, keep using Windows 10 for as long as you can.
lol@@devisals
exactly. i have the same problem.tried both ways. but to no avail. and the annoying part is, my folder up button is also missing. any help with the folder up button?
Thanks so much for this.
Over time, I get a nice workflow going. Then when I have to buy a new machine, low and behold Windows has once again 'fixed' what wasn't broke, and FUBAR my workflow.
They don't even offer a 'revert to older interface' option. That s**t really tightens my jaw.
I need a f**king drink, now.
Glad I could help out. Thanks for watching and don't forget hit subscribe button. Thanks!
Always wonder why people upgrade to another OS and wanna keep the look of the previous OS. Why not stick with the old one better?
Sir please tell me, how to get rid of a slow performing file explorer search operation on win 11, 22h2?
How to revert?
Or just get used to the new layout. 🤷♂️
Not as easy as it sounds
Exactly. When Win 10 came out everyone wanted it to look like Win 8.1 or Win 7, yet now that Win 11 has come out, everyone wants it to look like Win 10. I'd rather just get on with it, rather than being in a '1 version back looking' time warp.
It's not so much the look, but the performance hit that the new layout comes with. And not just on unsupported machines either. ;)
@@cammy85 I'm having a great time with it. A lot faster. Though that being said it is a BIT of a ram hog. Though I have 64gb so meh.
@@chrisg6597 a lot of IT requires adaptation to changing systems. Otherwise why not just stick with xp? These same people that complain are the same people who don't update for years and then wonder why their system is rammed full of malware.
i dont even see the part were downloads , pictures etec is that part is gone for me
Honestly Windows 7 was the perfect Windows for human brains, they should've worked on that only rather than releasing more versions
Not supported.
Hey brian
I just wanna bring the new windows 11 file explorer on windows 10.
Could you please upload a video about this?🙏
Thanks in advance
Does this revert the right click menu too?

HELP
registry edit did not work for me. Windows 11 Pro 22H2 build 22621.1928
My problem with the File Explorer in Windows 11 is not how it looks. My problem is I can not create a new Folder on the level "This PC".
I can only create new folders in EXISTING Folders like Images and Documents. This annoys me a lot. I want to create my own Folders. Is there a solution for this crazy problem?
Problem solved. It turns out on my new PC the Folder "This PC" is the SAME as OneDrive. That is insane. OneDrive is not on This PC and why is this Folder double? On the D-section (and on OneDrive) I can make new Folders.
Windows 11 file explorer works just fine for me. Going back to Win 10 file explorer reminds me of the start button brouhaha Microsoft had to put back due to old-dogs-that-can't-learn-new-tricks clamor.
what can i do if i have the old one on my win 11 and want the new one. I never did anything with my file explorer i just never upgraded with my windows
im here to see how can i bring the windows 11 file explorer back help pls
Thanks
hi man isn't there another way? didn't work on my laptop
I am using windows 11 pro
23H2 version
I see system tools like task manager and regedit still don't follow the dark mode convention in Windows 11. I have no reason to update then FFS
I hate new explorer with passion, and I am not able to even change with your method as well through the registry I tried, as well as through the cmd, nothing is working for me, Hope could tell microsoft, that this is a bad change, also they changed right click, I am using mostly rename folder n always have to go to more option, hate both of the changes
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Blocked
this is where I added the string it does not work
HELP! i don't know why this doesn't change my Explorer ribbon at all ive tried this about 6 times.
if you are windows insider user you cant change you have to be normal user
@@batubbal thanks I'll look n2 that
@@MrSeeingTAO but win 11 insider beta file explorer really great why you want roll back to win 10 folder style
Unfortunately this will no longer work on Windows 11 build 25120 and higher.
No offense but why would I need the old file explorer back? The new one is beautiful even though it's not even fully redesigned
Some people might like the old version. Like start menu. Do you like the new start menu? if not, you can change it.
@@Britec09
Yeah I can see, you're right some prefer the old menu and explorer.
I personally like the start menu and the explorer, and the new UI overall. If I loved the old explorer and start menu I probably wouldn't have upgraded
I can't see folders when I open file Explorer
The registry hack does not restore the W10-style File Explorer in W11.
it worked for me
is it just me or he acctually sounds like Master OOGWAY
sadly not working anymore
Hey Brian, it's Roy from your discord. I was banned today there but I don't know why
