@Yellow Joe negative! PRIME Roy Jones Jr. is the most advanced boxer to this date. Just was never meant to be a heavyweight. He maxes his body out. That's why he said he would never advise anyone to do that again. This man transcended like 4-5 weight classes. The body ain't meant to be manipulated that way. It can only take so much. He was really legit 50-0 technically

Your hands can be up there but some guys knock you out through your own hands. But if you can slip in counter even big punchers can't find you to hit. And every time they try they get touched up.

Lol funny enough, around year 3 of my 19 year boxing journey. I learned what Roy mentioned here by playing 2D fighting games. There’s typically a dash forward and backwards In games like street fighter and even tekken. I used to use that a lot to create openings after opponents attacks. I thought to myself “ I wonder if this would work in the ring” and the rest was history.

The same rules apply to basketball players with great ball handling ability.
It’s not the hand or foot speed that make them hard to guard it’s their mastery of footwork.
In essence, Champ is speaking on the mastery of the basics and fundamentals of boxing defense, but it applies to any sport.

"NO NO NO NO DEFENCE IS THIS"
Except Jones didn't have sound defence. He had cat like reflexes and only fundamentals. Which is why his career had no longevity, compared to Mayweather, Hopkins, etc.
Jones relied too much on his speed, reflexes, power and flash, instead of SOLID boxing skills. So he got starched as he both got older and kept moving around in weight, and his athleticism naturally deteriorated, because skills pay bills and raw natural athleticism can only carry you for that long.
The better defence is upper body movement, feet movement, both and knowing when to use which.

Yes and I find it weird him teaching boxing when he didn't need to use boxing fully as he had that much talent to not need it in a lot of cases.

His cat like reflexes was his defense that's what he's teaching except most boxes will never have those reflexes.

@@streetfashiontv9149 I didn't say he had no defense, I said he had no SOUND (as in good/solid) defense PRECISELY because he relied on athleticism over actual skill.
And which is precisely why he got fucked up so badly as his career went on, whereas others were winning titles and whooping ass well into their 40s...
