    I'm getting ready to paint my front door a light teal color, and i want shiney and easy to clean. I like the brush/roller combo the way you did your door and the screws on the ends for easy turning of the door, as well as not having to wait for it to completely dry.
    I need to replace the door knobs and the house numbers so it should look like a brand new door when done.

      @@meancheeto hi Jose, I would keep three things in mind when rolling. Having the right high density roller is key. You want to maintain a wet edge. Make sure you are not applying too much paint with your roller. Your coats should be applied lightly so that no roller marks are visible. In the video I’m also going over areas where I have rolled lightly again with the roller to get it looking perfect. I hope that helps.

    A reminder that your prep work is the most important step in painting. Clean, sand and prime, when needed, to ensure a durable, long lasting finish. I also prefer not to use enamel as they are prone to yellowing. You can also remove your hinge pins and door first before removing your hinges.

    Great tips given but I'd recommend an enamel paint which will cure rock hard and stand up much better to everyday use then the standard latex based paints. Won't get that paint sticking issue that latex gives off either when it comes to doors.

      That's a great option and a durable one too. I've found that a homeowners are reluctant to use Enamels in their homes due to off-gassing and VOCs. great video. love the screw hack! got a question. if latex takes 30 days to cure, are you saying that we shouldn't re-hang the doors for 30 days to prevent sticking or can we get by with re-hanging sooner? if so, what would be the recommended # of days or hours before it's safe to re-hang? BTW, just found your channel and have only watched a couple of your videos, but between the smoke detector video and this one, i'm going to sub and bell! thanks again!

    • @DaruDhillon
      @DaruDhillon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thanks for watching and subscribing! You can rehang your door once the paint is dry to the touch. During the cure time, use your door as normal. With any painted surface you want to avoid washing, wiping or cleaning the paint during that time. Latex paint needs this time to become more durable and to have a stronger bond with the door. Washing, wiping or cleaning a newly painted surface damages the durability of the paint. If a surface gets dirty just wait to clean it. Thanks for the great question. I hope that helps. 😀

      Hi Maribeth! Acrylic latex is the most popular choice of exterior paint for professional painters. It’s my go-to for exterior siding, doors and trim. I really like the Emerald line from SW, Duration is all a good choice. It’s flexible so it withstands expansion and contraction better than other types of paint plus it’s durable. For wood, I’d sand and use a good quality primer so you get good adhesion. Thanks for watching. I’m sorry I didn’t see your question sooner Maribeth. ⭐️

    When you painted black did you also paint the door trim same color? how you like the black?
    I have 7 doors to paint, I'm trying to see the best way to tackle them in my garage, do I paint 1 door and wait for it to dry and then do second door using the drilling method you show or just place all 7 face down paint, wait for it dry and then paint the other side. I'm thinking satin black, but a bit scared.

      I painted the trim white but it’s a personal choice. If you have a lot of doors to do do you can lean them against a wall to paint one side and then flip them once dry. Simple and fast

    I have really dark almost black cabinets. The builder did not caulk around them or fill nail holes. There are large gaps between trim and wall. Can I caulk around already painted cabinets?

    • @DaruDhillon
      @DaruDhillon  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Caulking will improve the look and is often used. Run a bead of caulking around your cabinets where they meet your wall. You can use a paintable caulk to blend into your wall color too if needed. If the gaps are too large and you don’t like the look you can always use a thin piece of trim color matched to your cabinets.

    Great video.. I want to paint my door the same color as you did, should I use a white primer first, or are there different color primers I should use ( ex . • @DaruDhillon
      @DaruDhillon  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are painting your door a dark color you can use a tinted primer. My paint supplier will tint paint to match (fairly closely) to the paint I’m using. In this video I’m I using white because it’s what I had on hand and it worked well too. You should always sand your door down so that your primer and paint bond and adhere really well to your door. This will ensure a long lasting finish. All the materials I used are listed in the description. Thanks for the question Victor! 👍🏽

      Hi Robert, I hear you, that's a frustrating situation. Keep in mind, when rolling it's important to have a light touch, two light coats are better than a thick coat. You can also try another roller and test it on a scrap board to see if that makes a difference. If you find the paint is just not levelling out as you would like, you can use a product like Floetrol (I've attached a link below). You can add it to your paint to get rid of brush strokes or roller marks. It's what painters use for a smoother finish. It's also used on trim and baseboards. Good luck Robert. I hope it works out for you.

    • @DaruDhillon

      That’s a good question RCB. Homeowners overwhelmingly want latex in their homes because it’s a more environmentally responsible choice. It’s simply healthier for your home and the air you breathe. Oil based paints have higher VOCs (volatile organic compounds) which can cause cancer. They also have a stronger smell. Hi Ivee, you can insert two long screws on both ends of your door. Place the end of your doors so that the screws are resting on your sawhorses. The door will be floating on the four screws. After painting one side, flip your door over to paint the other side.
      Because your door is not touching a surface, you don’t have to wait for one side to dry before painting the other.
      If you don’t have sawhorses you can use 2x4 off cuts or scrap lumber. Hope that helps. Thanks for the question!

    I wish you would’ve not been in front of the door so we wouldn’t look more at the door for the finish.

    Notice u didn’t prime 🚪

    • @DaruDhillon
      @DaruDhillon  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s primed. Your prep is the most important part of painting. I prime when covering wood, factory finish or oil based paint. With high quality paint, covering latex, I generally don’t.
      If you need to prime, I always recommend purchasing a high quality primer. Good luck with your painting! 👍🏽

      It’s a lot easier to see the technique for a tutorial instead of white on white. It’s also a popular choice for some!
