this game is a simulation of a cold war gone hot scenario and the respective orders of battle in that scenario, in that respect the game is unparalleled in quality
Great review! I completely agree, I love how close you can get, I mean… most of the time it’s just boxes, but when you zoom in, the models are amazing.
Nice review. Fully agree with you on not loving zones, Frontline was really great in SDN44 (less so with the flags in SD2), but it wouldn't quite fit a Cold War battlefield either, with fast all around movement. Maybe a mix, in which only Command units push the frontline could have been interesting. The AI is also not 100% where I would like it to be, but at least in the last year they have hired a REALLY motivated and active AI developer who is constantly improving its behaviour, so chances are it will improve over time.
Warno will improve over time. Eugen seems to know how to run these games. I hope now that it is in 1.0 it attracts and holds a steady player base. They also understand the market far better than some AAA devs right now, so that is a major plus. AI is AI, and most games have floundering AI. I try my best not to hold it against anyone unless it is blatantly bad.
@@TacticsWithJoe The thing that makes me the most optimistic is that eugen has realized how important mods can be and are now heavily focusing on both MAp and Campaign editor + working on enabling 3D Modeling for mods. So we will hopefully get WH40k Mods etc. in the future :D
I hate the frontline system with a passion, mainly because it limits your options. I cant go for a huge gamble flank if my opponent can see it on the map with no recon. I also cant play strong side weak side if my opponent can tell I'm not holding a certain point by how quickly the frontline reacts to his units. It makes raiding supply lines and setting up in unorthodox ways basically unplayable. Theres no perfect way to do it but i think the zones are a far superior method. You can flank if they dont recon but within the zones its far more limited. Also the zones make sense from an objective standpoint. In SD 2 there are flags just out in the middle of a field... that doesnt make any sense as an objective.
This sounds really good Joe. I play games slow (normally turn based, etc.), so this sounds perfect. On the ol' wishlist - thanks for helping spend some money! ;) lol
Honestly I've only heard mixed opinions about the game online in the forums. I think they've spent way too much time fiddling/balancing and not really being clear what they want the game to be. What are your thoughts?
compleartly agree. they also restict way to much on options for setting up games. things that could be a UI slider, points, or unit camps or tactical etc. all overly resticted to appease competive envorment. which seems to really ruin it.
@@voyageproperSomething I really miss about games where multiplayer was the after thought and balance didn't matter was all the absurd things you could do. The crazy broken builds in HoMM3 or the ridiculous units in some of the Command and Conquer games.
Great job on your WARNO review, Joe! So I already own and have limited gaming time playing both SD 2 and Regiments. Do you think there is enough difference between WARNO and both of these games to warrant buying WARNO for the $50 price tag (here in Canada) or not? BTW What do you think of Regiments verses WARNO 1.0 with respect to the steepness of the learning curve for a newer player to these types of games? Really enjoy and appreciate your Regiments tutorial videos! :)
I'd wait for the steam summer sale if you are on the fence. Warno and regiments are different enough to warrant owning both. You'll probably end up playing warno more. Regiments development seems to have stalled. They've given us great dlcs.
I'm pretty excited for it. I only play single player so it's exciting that it has so much single player content. I just got MOW2, Headquarters WWII, and Close Combat Modern Tactics so it'll be a while (I know the reviews are bad for CC Modern Tactics but I'm a sucker for modern settings and it was 5.99).
@@antwarior No but it's one I'm going to play eventually. So far I'm liking MOW2 a lot but I never play multiplayer so a lot of the complaints don't really effect me. I do hope the offline mode is enabled soon. Online for single player is my only big complaint.
@@JD-vj4go i never play multiplayer niether but once you get into call to arms, you'll like it even better than MOW trust me, its way more realistic and you don't need to be connected to any internet to play, the soldiers you play with on the battle field you can manage them during the off field time and replenish their supplies for the next battle, you can add new units such as artillery or whatever you want to send them into battle with on the next fight but yeah its 1000% better than MOW, I know for a fact you'll like it better because when I tried MOW, I didn't even make it 30 minutes before I was back on call to arms and fully refunded my money for MOW

Hey Joe. Been following you for some time. Hope for some honest opinion. A few months ago while on EA, warno had tons of negative reviews. The first AG campaign wasn’t received very well too. I went to check steam again today and saw that it has switched to mostly positive. What happened? Are the reviews reliable? I’m a huge combat mission and steel division and wargame fan although SD2s army general got a bit too overwhelming and clunky especially with the larger campaigns.
I think there was a lot of drama a few months ago. Things were progressing smoothly. It also seemed like the game lost direction at times, and AG was in a weird spot, if I remember correctly. I would wait for a sale, and I am kinda bummed that warno didn't launch with a discount. It's important to remember people want o hear positive things on youtube or they already want to reaffirm an already held opinion. If you are unsure, buy it on sale.
yOU SAY the younger gen cant enjoy it because its too slow , but you forgot to mention , if you have crippling ADD, you can speed up the game time in the top right CORNER with the >>> symbol >>

I love these modern gamers, they've taken it upon their selves to be workers rights advocates, when they dont really know what goes on. They are all emotion-based, shed tears when some ex-employee cries on Twitter about their job, and suddenly tries to insert themselves into the situation. If you really wanna do good in the world, how about starting in your own community. Volunteer to help feed the poor, clean up a park... do something other than pretending to care about corporate policies just to justify sitting in front of your computer all day.
I'm sure they treat their employees horribly. Almost all corporations do. If I refused to do business with evil corporations I couldn't buy food. Our electronics are made by child labor. Most of the world's population is poor and exploited.
