I lost my soulmate, & husband 3 years ago......
This song has been very healing to me. He moved on to heaven. I still talk to him....& I do feel his presence....
But I feel stronger some days....
    We were together 26 years...

Born and raised as a Christian in Chicago I loved rock-pop music since before I was 10. Jesus has blessed me with the gift of music. Loving it and playing it-drums, guitar, and vocals. Terry Kath went to Taft High School where I lived. He was about 5 years older than me. I loved listening to Chicago's bands, the band Chicago, and many other great Chicago bands(New Colony Six, Cryan Shames, Buckinghams, Styx, etc.. I follow Jesus closely, but I can listen to a lot of rock music unless it dishonors God who gave us all breath to sing and play music. My wife who recently passed on to Heaven was nicknamed, LADY, at Curie H.S.in Chicago. She had a jacket with the name, LADY, on it. When I married her, I told her, LADY, is my favorite song by Chicago's Styx band. It's a beautiful song, and I had the most Godly, lovely, and beautiful wife. I look forward soon to being with her in Heaven. She was a bit of Heaven on earth married to her. Today would have been her 65th Birthday.

Early Chicago is easily one of the greatest bands ever. But when Kath died the soul of Chicago was never the same.

Chicago is my favorite band. There was a chemistry with the original members that molded their sound. Unfortunately that changed drastically after Terry Kath died. It's nobody's fault it just happened. Nobody could ever replace TK. He is probably the most under rated guitarist of all time.

This is the most lit live performance. The studio recording is fine, of course. But live? This thing just gives me goosebumps all the way through. The crowd. The emotion in the playing. When each member of the band gets their turn to really go to town. Shit, even the announcer is out of his mind. Just the most lit performance ever.

No, I think that award would go to The Band. "The who" you say? Precisely. They're probably best known for being Dylan's backing band when he went electric but they had had many years on the road before then. When backstage people (not the stagehands) asked who they were, the standard response was "Oh, that's the band.". They figured it was a good enough name as any so they kept it. Music reviewers thought so much of them that they called them the Canadian Beatles. They were all from Canada, except their singer drummer Levi Helm (an Arkansan I believe) who, even after death, remains a legend. Their fusion of gospel, rhythm and blues, and rock (born from playing all the little honytonks deep in the backwoods) was dynamite and their seminal first album "Music From Big Pink" (the color of the house they lived in around Woodstock, N.Y.) just blew away legends like Eric Clapton. He handed their tape around to other legends like George Harrison I believe and word is be had really wished he could have been their guitarist. Check them out on "Up on Cripple Creek", "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" (which was the most covered song when it came out) and "It Makes No Difference" (gut wrenching, if you've been there). I saw them twice live. The were damn good!

    • @Looking1231
      @Looking1231 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Deep down they really can't get any respect. Last I heard, they are the third biggest selling American band in history with well over 100 million records sold worldwide. The only two groups ahead of them are The Eagles and I KNOW I should know the other band but it to darn early in the morning to think lol. Take in mind I said American so bands like Zepplin and The Beatles might have sold more but they are, of course, not American bands.

The American people loved and loves Chicago very much, there are many comments from fans who say that when they were kids they only thought about Chicago from its beginnings, I lived it in the 90s and 2000s when their songs were played all the time on different radio stations, at any time. time of day, and this is one of the best, if they are well loved and Peter Cetera more of a soloist, they are the AMERICAN identity.

Couldn't get better than this in the 70's. Still think Chicago and it's band members were under rated . Maybe because of the way they played as a tight and harmonious group overshadowed the individuals in the band, great musicians that they were and still are. Keep rockin' Chicago!

Donnie Dacus didn't seem to get a lot of love, but I often wonder if that was simply because he "wasn't Terry." But I wish he'd been able to stay on, long term, rather than the continued succession of guitarists that ensued. Donnie could sing really well. His guitar playing was superb. Anyone know if maybe there were some "personality conflicts" that might've led to his departure?

Chicago is without a doubt one of my all time greatest bands I really dug. And I'm from the Chicago suburbs. I've been searching is to me their stairway to heaven. Pankow wrote this and others. What an unbelievable song. Brings tears to your eyes. Peter is one the best singers ever.

Dang!!!! Poor guys it looks like they were playing outside in a mini-storm!!!! All the wind in their hair, Peter's and the boys on horns, it looks cool in a weird way, and yes I do miss Cetera in the band, but hey, they still rock today, 45 years later!!!!! Chicago 4 Ever!!!!

@LoveforpC4ever That's cause McCartney was his main influence. Cetera has said so many times. He even played a Hofner bass in the band he was in B4 Chicago--The Exceptions. If you've not heard the Exceptions, you MUST. Every Cetera fan needs to hear how he gradually emerged from being just a bass player, to singing backing vocals to being that band's front & center vocalist. It's stunning--like watching a rose bloom.

still, he admits to never feeling accepted by the band And I have to say, prior to reading that I definitely picked up on it with my social interaction radar.
He never looked to be a welcome part of that "brotherhood" Danny or somebody talked about. Peter was left out of the circle, wasn't given his pats on the back, wasn't encouraged and raised up as Terry was. Terry could do no wrong.
peter could do no right, even when giving his best rendition of 67 & 68 at the Budokan in '72. And even after blowing us away singing lead on 25 or 6 to w at the infamous Tanglewood show.
Many years he was slighted by them, his band brothers.
The main bro he had was Kath as Pete & Terry were best buds.
Still people show a hard hate for Peter, undeserved.
He is a lovely man and gave the world his gift from even before joining Chi in 67 up to his quietly announced 2019 retirement.
I hope his hurt soul is healed of all these negative hate vibes rained over him these past 60 years, when he leave this toxic earthly plain and goes to a peaceful world of healing and love.

@@moodylicious Ya. I see exactly the dynamic you touch on. Two strikes against him from the git-go. First, Cetera was last to join the band. Second he played bass. Bassists are usually the least respected guys in a band, any band. (Notable exceptions: McCartney & Sting.) They're the Rodney Dangerfields of rock bands. Few people *want* to be bass players; most want to be guitarists & drummers. MANY bassists get the role dumped on them because nobody wants it. That happened to McCartney in the Beatles. So from the start, Cetera was metaphorically the snot- nosed little brother who tags along because the big boys were forced to take him along. (IE they REALLY needed a bassist AND someone to sing tenor to round out the band.) Then, unexpectedly, the tag-along ends up being REALLY GOOD and slowly emerges, essentially, as a front man. Bandmates didn't expect that...and it sorta pissed them off because, well, "Hey. WE started the band & he was just the hired hand." It's a story reminiscent of biblical Joseph and his coat of many fancy colours. So the dynamic wasn't ideal to begin with. Plus, unlike most guys in the band, he wasn't a college-educated musician. He was more of a working stiff from Morgan Park on Chicago's far southwest side. The others were from the middle-class North/Northwest Side.

@@jkllfdsa there you go! Makes great sense! That helped to really flesh out the third rate status they afforded PC. That must have made Pankow EXTRA pissed to see Peter rise to the top and become the money maker, hit song writer, frontman & lady killer saving the band and bringing them out of the slump. Interesting dynamics. Terry was not professionally trained with the pedigree of the horns. However, he had an alpha & big presence. Plus he wowed the hell out of them on the guitar. I guess Pete's great voice and even happenin bass groove couldn't ace Terry's clout.

@@moodylicious Correct re Kath not being formally trained. Neither was drummer, Seraphine. But those 2 hung around the others studying @ DePaul U. Even though Kath was not enrolled there he hung out in the music school with them. Today, there's a Terry Kath music scholarship available @ De Paul.

    • @moodylicious

@@caballero3601 great contributions to the story Dhummavati and caballero. You have both revealed deeper aspects of this palpable dynamic of hierarchy and envy as Cetera slowly revealed he was more than they were willing to give him credit for. No aspersions meant on Terry. He hung out at DePaul and learned by osmosis and association with the trained horns and Guercio. Terry was one with his instrument and few had his instinct such that he held conversation or argument with his guitar, as it literally spoke, wailed and whined. Peter;'s pain went very deep. Years of being ignored, passed over and not even acknowledged took its toll. Still, he produced when it counted and gave unexpected surprising riches to the band so bent on marginalizing him. Danny and Pete were core percussives to a band leaning heavily on percussion, beat & timing. We know Terry was on the precipice of leaving. I always wonder how that break would have been received. Likely with love, acceptance and satisfaction of having two bands to love. Peter was given an ultimatum by a band who never saw him as 'brother', so he could easily be kicked to the curb and damned for eternity for bringing every ill imaginable upon the aftermath of Chicago, during his 6-1/2 years after Terry on to his decades of solo work. I know Terry had a special bond with Peter and would not be happy seeing his friend so disparaged by his old bandmates. They will have to face the piper when judgment day comes. I loved Terry and Peter. I respected the hell out of Peter for growing up, straightening his act out and making something of his life, although his voice is a part of the Chicago I loved and I miss him. Afraid too much harm has been done, too many anti-Cetera stories spread to ever get anyone to see they may have misjudged him. All the pioneers of rock are going to that great gig in the sky sooner or later. Let's appreciate them for the path they laid for others to follow and raise a glass or a hand in salute.
