    The instrument is the Fluglehorn. The best known Fluglehorn song of all time is "Feel so Good" by Chuck Mangione.

      The wider bore of the Flugelhorn gives it a darker and more mellow tone over the Trumpet’s more brassy sound.

    • @farfromperfek
      @farfromperfek 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @bobsylvester88 it's also more difficult to keep it intonation, so it takes a better lip to play it than a Trumpet. Not French Horn difficult, though.

      Though Colour My World was released in three early 70s, it got a a resurgence of airtime in 1978 after guitarist Terry Kath accidentally killed himself. This was one of the songs that featured Terry Kath on lead vocals. Note, I don't know why they always used the British spelling of "colour" since Chicago was an American band, but they did.

    You hit the nail on the head when you said this is the difference with professionals/veterans/serious artists. The thing that carried Chicago for decades thru many different sounds and styles were their arrangements.
    In this song, tbh no one part (melody, horns, rhythm) is stand-alone awesome, but the sum of the parts is just, well yeah yummy. 😂
    Chicago overall has fantastic arrangements, which have fueled their success thru the decades.

    One of the most prolific bands in history. Something like 19 original albums plus various "greatest hits". Want to talk about a very deep rabbit hole? You found it. The level of talent on the stage is truly amazing. Their later work started gravitating toward bubblegum and pop, but anything prior to 1977 is great. They had MULTIPLE albums where every song is a banger whereas most groups are happy if they even put together ONE. Saturday In The Park, Does Anyone Know What Time It Is and 25 Or 6 to 4 will get you on your way

    The brass instrument is a flugelhorn, basically a cross between a trumpet and a French horn. It has a mellower sound than a regular trumpet. For more great flugelhorn music check out Chuck Mangione. He has a number of great tunes such as Feels So Good, Hill Where the Lord Hides, Land of Make Believe, and Bellavia.

    Being a Trumpet player at 17, Chicago was the go to band we all loved BECAUSE of the horns. All the marching bands in the 1970's, high school and college, were playing Chicago tunes at halftime and in basketball band. At Michigan State University, we did an entire Chicago halftime show, and formed the big Chicago script trademark on the field. I was right in front at the bottom of the "A." I got on national TV for a few seconds. My dad had seen me on TV that way, and he told me later...that was a magic moment when dad got excited his son was on national TV.😂 We had played the same show at the University of Illinois, in the rain mind you, and the one of the Chicago Newspapers had put our band on the front page Sunday paper forming the Chicago Script. Boy was the Illinois Band pissed off hahahhaha

    Chicago's legendary years are while their founding guitarist Terry Kath was alive. Chicago Transit Authority through Chicago XI is the rabbit hole you wanna live through. Start off with the first album (a monster double LP), first disc, first side, first track and let Terry blow you away on "Introduction" appropriately named for the band introducing their new sound to the world! Follow that up on the same album with "Poem 58" and get down with nine minutes of PURE FUNK!

    The flugelhorn (/ˈfluːɡəlhɔːrn/), also spelled fluegelhorn, flugel horn, or flügelhorn, is a brass instrument that resembles the trumpet and cornet but has a wider, more conical bore. Like trumpets and cornets, most flugelhorns are pitched in B♭, though some are in C. It is a type of valved bugle, developed in Germany in the early 19th century from a traditional English valveless bugle. The first version of a valved bugle was sold by Heinrich Stölzel in Berlin in 1828. syrating in the 1960's or so, it became used as a jazz instrument for a sweeter sound...the trumpet is more brash or bright sounding, , the cornet, played exactly the same as a trumpet, is shorter length wise, and has a darker tone, and the Flugel Horn has even a more sweeter darker tone.

    As a Chicago fan since the early 70s (I was 9 when my cousin got me into them). There are basically 3 eras of Chicago... The original Chicago(with the late Terry Kath), the pop Chicago(featuring Peter Cetera), and the new Chicago(after Peter left). I love all three versions though the pop early 80s was my least favorite as they used the horns at a minimum... Thank beautiful ❤
