According to my research, some batches of controllers made around 2020-2022 would stop responding after x amount of power cycles. If that's the case, they basically self-bricked themselves.
Nanoleaf has issued some voluntary replacement offers and luckily for me, I received one (although I was actually within my warranty period)

Currently going through this myself. Ultimately, this is a hardware issue.

I ended up buying a new controller, syncing it, and the Nanoleaf shapes went back to operating properly.
