- Chip brought his newly upgraded 240 hp Electric Super Bike to AutoClub Speedway in Fontana, CA on 2/12/11 & 2/13/11, with a mission to improve his lap times from his previous two WERA races where he took 2nd and 3rd place against the gassers. Chip succeeded in shaving a couple of seconds off his previous best time clocking 4 laps in the 1:37 range. His best lap was 1:37.308 with a top speed 163.7 mph.
Chip had his best results on Sunday, mid-day, before strong winds started causing some unexpected stability challenges in the final session. Overall, Chip was pleased with the way the bike was holding it's line in the corners and the raw fiberglass on the left bottom of Chip's fairing confirmed Chip's confidence in it's handling. Chip passed slower bikes in the corners on several occasions. However, coming out of the corners, the front end wasn't getting the right signals from the anti-wheelie software. The acceleration was still quick enough for Chip to catch and pass several bikes on the back straight. The AutoClub Speedway's long banked front straight is where Chip dominated most of the ice bikes (163.7 mph).
This fan-cam video is comprised of short clips from the two days Chip was on the track. Altough the clips are in correct order, acording to the layout of the track, the clips are edits from some of my better footage compiled over two days and the four track sessions I attended. I'm not a video pro by any stretch of the imagination and I had to take lots of video to get one decent looking video.
Big thanks to Chip, Robert, Jimmy & Julie for letting me hang with them in the pits between shooting video.
