Watched it again this morning on a big TV. Some great numbers I thought. I loved the jump cuts (right name?) which I thought clever and added extra to the piece. Lenny Henry I thought was both clever and talented and did himself proud. He gave Mike Yarwood a run for his money.
Even as a kid, watching in black and white (pun intended) in the 60s I found this show deeply disquietening. The fact that the BBC chose to run it right through till 1978 shows a level of crass insensitivity that's difficult to fathom. They prioritised ratings over integrity, as they did when they ignored Saville's appalling activities during the same period.
I know plenty of black people who didn't have any problem with this at all, including myself a brown Brit. Its black and white. What's the problem you have with it?
Ironically, I love that this show existed. As an American I spent most of my life just assuming that the British were so classy, and that even at my best I was just a garish Yankee lout. Then I see this, and realize that Brits can suck too.😂

I'd prefer to enjoy the programme for what it is - a superb variety show with brilliantly staged musical numbers - than to apologise for its incompatibility with current racial politics.
Wonderful voices
You can't see the lip syncing then?

Only watched the initial dance but didn't seem offensive to me
Haha I love reading these comments. Bunch of sanctimonious cry babies.😂

Plenty of brownie points there for you, I'm just surprised that you haven't mentioned the Larry Grayson joke you missed another point 😊
Oh the humanity! It's funny and taken in a completely different spirit. No point crying over it now 😂

@@Khayyam-vg9fw It wasn't exactly compatible with the politics of it's own time either, people had been campaigning against this show since 1961!
@@Khayyam-vg9fw it was dogleg then ! Let alone now
