This content is hosted here as close to it's original form as possible to act as educational research content so the program can be judged in full with it's content in context. If you would like to learn more about the racial stereotypes this show was based on consider visiting the web page for "The Jim Crow Museum"' for a in depth exploration of the culture of the time and how it affected people's lives. jimcrowmuseum.ferris.edu/index.htm

Fantastic utterly harmless entertainment, loved it as a youth, some of the voices were truly awesome.

I remember as a kid, our city had a Minstrel show every year presented by our local Rotary or Lions club, I forget who.

Amazing, these mono prints I haven't seen before. Are these part of the BBC archive, I thought I had seen them all?

I watched this with my grandparents. More naive times and it never entered our heads that this was anything to do with race representation - just entertainment. Looking at it now it make uncomfortable viewing but it’s because we’re more aware

I was very young at the time and just assumed the minstrels were actual Black people. My mum had to explain that this was not the case. I just thought the show was a bit naff.
