If the 1957 special pilot ''The 1957 Television Minstrels'' doesn't count, i've always wondered if these final specials was supposed to be made as its 20th anniversary special of how The Black and White Minstrel Show begun as a whole thing. The first show was shown 2 days after the premiere of its first full televised show (14th June 1958) so honestly i find that to be some kind of an coincidence. (or maybe that's just me thinking about it)
To my knowledge they were expecting to do the usual new season starting in November/December 1977 but that's when the new contract didn't appear. the 6 specials were negotiated afterwards as a way to "soften the blow" as it was described in the Timeshift documentary.
For those who don't like the shows why are you watching have you anything to do All day but nit pick I'm mixed race I find it entertaining , there's far worse things going on the world than a tv show
I was unable to watch this show and join in the Chat, but have now watched and thoroughly enjoyed it - as always. One little niggle, though - that art deco background, clearly seen at 30:31, is completely out of place in an English Country Garden.

No, just a coincidence, in fact the cast didn't even know that this was the last season, it just never got renewed.

It’s nice that they got Dai back for the last hurrah
So this was the first of the 6 shows in 1978, but they all knew at this point that this was the end of the run.
Yes the normal show ended in 1977, these TV specials were the last gasp.

Not only incredibly racist but so armature , i can't believe this went as late as 1978.... shocking.
Fantastic show so entertaining
