São Miguel is the largest island in the Azores, which belongs to Portugal. It is known for its volcanoes, flora and fauna (including whales). Attractions in the capital, Ponta Delgada, are the 18th-century city gate "Portas da Cidade", the Gothic church "Igreja Matriz de São Sebastião" and the 16th-century fortress "Forte de São Brás". The Sete Cidades crater lake, with its green and blue parts, is located to the north-west. To the east is Furnas with its fumaroles and mineral springs.
São Miguel ist die größte Insel der zu Portugal gehörenden Azoren. Sie ist für ihre Vulkane, Pflanzen- und Tierwelt (unter anderem Wale) bekannt. Attraktionen in der Hauptstadt Ponta Delgada sind das Stadttor "Portas da Cidade" aus dem 18. Jahrhundert, die gotische Kirche "Igreja Matriz de São Sebastião" und die Festung "Forte de São Brás" aus dem 16. Jahrhundert. Der Kratersee von Sete Cidades mit seinem grünen und seinem blauen Teil liegt im Nordwesten. Im Osten befindet sich Furnas mit seinen Fumarolen und Mineralquellen.
