    Glad to hear you're looking at the possibility of a smaller version. As an aged detectorist, I find it uncomfortable to hoist a large scoop of wet sand and roll it over. A smaller scoop would be a delight. I'm anxiously awaiting the rollout. Thanks.

    That is a nice looking scoop, but Stainless Steel Scoop is still much heavier than those Titanium scoops out there like the Xtreme Scoops. That 3.13lbs will start to get heavy over time. I know the Titanium scoops are a lot more money, but they are worth every single penny 110%!

    I purchased the Honey Badger from Merrill. It is a well-constructed, heavy-duty scoop. Excellent design and the craftsmanship is outstanding. Merrill was kind enough to ship it to me priority mail, as I will be using it today. The scoop is pitched at a perfect angle for scooping and digging in the sand. Thanks again Merrill, appreciate all you do.

    This scoop looks like it takes care of a lot of common problems that I have on the beach with other sand scoops. The largemouth opening allows movement of a lot of different types of sand, so actual less time spent digging out the hole and the open top doesn't allow the sand to pack tightly in the scoop, making it easier to flip it over and dump all the sand out rather than making tightly packed sand blocks that take more effort to shake out when they get tightly packed in there, that other scoops can cause. This handle is also much sturdier than other carbon fiber sand scoop handles that I've used. Thanks for taking the time and effort to manufacture your honey badger scoop. Happy to help support you and your channel. You've done so much for so many people, including me. Thank you.

      @@MetalDetectingNYC there is a lot of things to consider when trying to make a scoop that will work well in all different types of sand... It's not an easy task. Highly compacted sand, fluff sand, rock, shell, weight, reliability, construction and then the process of manufacturing begins which is a whole other egg in itself. I truly believe that you have worked hard to attempt something that is very difficult to attempt given that there's so many parameters and different types of sand scoops, but I believe your experience and testing process has blossomed a thorough scoop, that may function very well across the variety of types of sand. No doubt that you have put your experience into this scoop, and I know you put your heart into it... I know you're passionate about it... I know you care... Those things are easy to see. What's difficult is developing an idea into a functioning handheld object. That's quite an accomplishment. Great work. Keep it up. I'm a patented inventor and manufacturer as well. I know the path. You can't please everyone all the time, but just know that your knowledge and time spent producing this product has been appreciated. Thank you

    Some models that i saw had a little flat place in the back where you can put your feet to drive it in the sand. That is nice when you detect bare feet or wearing flipflops. It would make your scoop perfect. Your scoops look strong and good, but they are a bit pricy. Keep digging..

    Looks like a great scoop Merrill! If you have no choice and have a rattle on a cheaper scoop.. use a couple wraps of electrical tape before adding the scoop to the shaft.. eliminates the wobbles and lasts a long time. Jewelry catch feature is near essential for in water hunting👍

    As far as the poles go. Take a note from Anderson….. add the solid core plug at the base so they don’t snap and add some spray foam at the top for flotation. Closed cell foam is best because it will not absorb water ! Cheers

    Wonderful looking scoop, Merrill! It's obvious that a lot of thought and care went into the making of the HB. We currently are in Ohio and not in market for a beach scoop... yet... but that will definitely change later this year, once we complete our van remodel and are on the road. So, you've got one guaranteed sale from Ohio at some point this year, of that you can be certain!
    I do have one question-- as space is severely limited in our van, it would be helpful to know the length of the travel shaft segments when broken down, and also the total length when fully assembled.
    Keep up the great work, and a sincere "thank you" for all that you do for the detecting community!

    Hey Merrill, would it be better to do away with the honeycomb shape holes and replace that idea with the same sized slots holes that are near the bottom, all throughout the scoop? For smaller items may escape from the top of the scoop when you first start to shake out the sand, if you see where I'm going with this, just an idea bro. With this change, it wouldn't look as pretty, but may-be more effective, and probably more work in the process. Love your channel, keep up the great work! Metal Detector NYC... signed, Greg the Egg.

      @marcshea8921 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are challenges with all small holes in wet sand, shells, and pebble beaches. Large hole scoops kill it in dry sand but drive you crazy when a target falls through in the water. The combination of the large holes with a jewelry catcher (small holes) will just work for more people that do a bit of dry sand and water hunting, so they don't have to buy multiple scoops for different environments. Just my thoughts, 🤔 Happy Hunting 🧲(((💍🏜️🏝️ 🌊

      Interesting question. Most have a setting where you can ground balance automatically and others ground balance automatically when you turn them on. Some of the intro level detectors do not have a ground balance function. Do you have to? No. But it’s like playing a guitar out of tune. You won’t get optimal performance if you don’t consider the ground.

      I’ve seen long range detectors and videos on them. One includes a guy who is wearing a wedding ring. How exactly could that work with a ring attached to a detectorist? Most places on earth would have too much interference to find a signal at a distance. I’m not a believer.
      I think it would be a more well known tool if it works. Detectorists like to show their stuff. Nobody could keep their mouth shut about that if it worked. Finally, gold does not have one signature. It depends on the alloy, size and density if we are talking about VDI.

    Great looking scoop 👍 but I'm just wondering if you would make the Jewelry width as shown, time stamp 3:48 up to the 9 inch mark and then make the whole bottom body the jewelry slots which would give you a more sturdy product and the way it looks like to me, once you get the Sand in the scoop and start shaking it, the jewelry could possibly still fall thru it. But if you would expand the jewelry and only have a single row of the round holes, at the very back top row and for sure The jewelery will not fall thru cause now the handle is touching the ground and I will watch the video again and another time stamp on the area that I seen.....3:53 Mark , Make this Area At least 4 inches of the jewelry notches, but still a good looking scoop but just something I seen. That would make it the Ultimate Sand Scoop for sure......👍💡👍

    • @MetalDetectingNYC
      @MetalDetectingNYC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the feedback. I feel that the bigger holes are needed because rocks often make the jewelry catcher pointless. If you are out in the water on a Sandy beach it is perfect. But you really need bigger holes to get the sand out. Otherwise it would retain too much material in rocky conditions.

      @@MetalDetectingNYC but not everybody has Rocky Sand and I Use mine mostly in the water 💦 and need one just like I described to you cause it has Too many bigger holes and small stuff just goes thru the holes and the hand scoop that I have now it has the almost same design as yours but stuff falls out, but it doesn't have any jewelry catches . But I think it will help with the people that do more water 💦 hunting Sand than dry sand like yourself and I'm not saying the whole bottom of jewelry catches but If you look at the handle area and the time stamps and see what you was measuring is like 4" of catches but don't worry about it. I will have a shop make one or two for me from my Ideas 💡 in my neighborhood, just found out you are making them and seen an improvement to the design, and I will just have to do it myself.... Thanks

      Norm, I thought the wooden shaft on my scoop would last forever, but a few years into using it it snapped right near the base of the scoop. If you hunt in wet sand it will likely happen to you too. If you choose to stay with wood I would definitely recommend bringing along a spare handle. Just sayin’.

      Im sorry if you feel that the price is high but I won’t go to China to manufacture. There are mediocre scoops all over the internet south of 200 dollars. I wasn’t going for that. This is what I would consider to be a perfect beach scoop. I never expect to sell in mass. This will never be my full time gig. I make less than 100 dollars per scoop in profits after everything g is shipped. My goal is to produce the highest quality scoop at a price that beats the top of the market. We did that.
