Got a hold of this recording around 1993 when I was like 15yo, I've got every note burned into my soul from hearing it thousands of times, literally burned through so many maxell xl2s I started making backups, also this version of Bertha is the first time it was ever played live, the dead played it live for the first time 2/18/71
Also....The Grateful Dead probably did this concert with David Crosby because at the same time they were helping him out with his first solo album over at Wally Heider studios.
Crosby had said on an old studio recording a year before this he had planned to work with the Dead on putting their tracks onto an album and all that goes with
Yes, most likely the SG he played at that time. Definitely different than the Strat tones that followed but I think the extra distortion with the SG is cool and more aggressive…different side of Jerry
I know video cameras were very rare back then . It's a crying shame none of this priceless audio recording that a 16mm news and documentary movie camera or even just a kodak 8mm camera was used then to see who was playing and singing when & where during this wonderful audio "video" .. i know, know i ramble . i'm fu*ked up with screamin painful arthritis and can't fu#king think straight
They had some massive studio video cams at some parties at Mickey's on tracks. Lighting was very low in many of the recorded jams I could barely get a 35mm black and white shot of Crosby flipping me off😂
This is awesome! To have been a fly on the wall in that room...❤(picture)

Beautiful. So who's the guy on the right?
Were there other members of The Dead on David's first record or just Jerry?
Members of Airplane
jerry, phill, micky, and bill all make appearances. mostly jerry and phil.

Jerry must be playing a Gibson? It's got a full throated tone that only lasted a brief moment...

They’re trying to teach Croz Bertha ??! I know they lost him at the chorus
