Thank you for sharing this, Dr Harrington! I'll never forget the day dad shared with me that he was diagnosed with IPF and that his pulmonologist told him he only had a few years to live. We've seen him improve over the last 5 years and, thanks to laser therapy, he still doesn't need oxygen even though his pulmonologist assured him he would be dead by now. For the next interview you should ask him about when his pulmonologist asked him to cut a piece of his lung out so he could find out why he wasn't getting worse.

No, I would not make that claim.

Can this be used for COPD, too??

In general, laser therapy treatments can help to manage pain and inflammation, and help with tissue healing. We can safely treat a patient with COPD, but the extent to which we are able to help them cannot be predicted.

Hi Lisa, you can find Summus Laser clinics on this page: summuslaser.com/find-a-provider/

If there are no Summus clinics close to you, try an online search for "class 4 laser therapy near me".

Dr.Harrington my husband has been going to the laser therapy. But it's not the one that does laser for a pinpoint area.He has laid 7 times,20 minutes a session. The doctor we are doing this through called Aspen that makes the bed to ask about if it would work. They told her it would but may take longer. Were you telling me the bed has to be a laser 4 bed that focuses into specific areas?I appreciate you contacting me back.I feel like my husband is getting worse.I very much look to you for advice.Thank you

@@lisabyrd754 The bed you describe is not the same as the class 4 therapy laser that Dr. Hall uses in his clinic. Use my previous suggestions to find either a Summus laser provider, or a clinic that uses a class 4 therapy laser.

Thank you Dr.Harrington.So what she said about speaking to the makers of the laser beds that it would work but take longer. That would not be accurate.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a rare, but serious lung disease. It causes a build-up of scar tissue in the lungs, which stiffens the lungs to the point where they’re unable to expand and contract. This makes it harder to breathe mainly because the lungs are unable to take in as much oxygen as needed.
IPF is difficult to diagnose, mainly because there are few if any symptoms in its earliest stages. Additionally, symptoms of IPF - such as a dry, hacking cough, shortness of breath, and chest discomfort - mimic other conditions. However, with IPF breathing becomes so difficult that even being at rest is straining on the body. Other common symptoms include extreme fatigue and clubbing, where the fingertips and nails are enlarged and rounded.
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) portends a poor prognosis. With regard to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis life expectancy, the estimated mean survival is 2-5 years from the time of diagnosis.

As the disease progresses, patients with pulmonary fibrosis are at risk of other health complications such as heart failure, stroke, pulmonary embolism, and lung infections. Weakness in the lungs means that other tissues aren’t getting the oxygen that they need, and scar tissue makes the lungs more susceptible to infection.
No cure is currently available for pulmonary fibrosis, but treatments can help reduce symptoms, with new therapies under development. Immunosuppressant medications can also be prescribed to treat pulmonary fibrosis. In severe cases, lung transplant may be necessary.
