So no 8.5 upgrade for those early adopters of the IX in 2022? After all the issues we faithfully waited for our cars to finally get in our hands, we are being abandoned by BMW. So much for all the hype of the IX being the “bespoke” platform for the future and all the “software upgrades” they bragged about in the press about the IX platform. BMW builds very nice cars, but the are definitely the Microsoft Windows of car software suppliers. Nice job BMW, that’ll be the last 100K you get from me.
@@BMWofFW BTW - I LOVE my IX, its my first electric car and my first BMW. Hell, I flew across the country and picked mine up in Baltimore and drove it home back to Washington State. It just very disappointing to now find out that all the “promised” future upgrades to the platform are not going to happen, because of hardware module. Even Tesla stepped up in the early days and did free upgrades of their main CPU when they realized it needed more power for what they want to do in software. We as owners are ambassadors of BMW, we promote these cars everywhere we go. We were the true believers. We could have bought Mercedes, or Rivian, or even “cough” a Telsa. 100+K for a car is no joke, thats a large check for anyone to write. I just thought buying into the BMW family, I would be better taken care of for at least during the warranty period. It’s not even been a year. A big part of these cars is the software. If BMW is not committing to keeping the current customers and ambassadors whole, well then we vote with our dollars I guess. Lots of very very interesting cars coming out over the next few years. Too bad, I guess I expected more. Now I see, not so much. I will continue to enjoy my IX for the next 4 years or so, but given this experience, I will have to consider other options in the future. One last comment: I was literally about to put a deposit down on the new 5 series electric for my wife. Beautiful care, was really excited about having a second Beemer in the garage. That purchase has been put on hold.
Me too, super pissed and it will be my last BMW too, especially as BMW is not offering CarPlay 2.0 which would have allowed for software updates to come from Apple.
@@BMWofFW I’m sure there are some features that can’t be got but I feel like having shortcut buttons on the bottom bar shouldn’t be impossible. I just hate this kind of planned obsolescence. Tesla have managed to do updates to 10 year old cars but BMW can’t even update cars that haven’t even been made yet.
My latest version of Samsung has the digital key. This is not a problem. The problem is that BMW doesn't support Android. Really would like to get it soon 😀

My 4 Series has not even been produced yet (expecting August delivery) and I am not getting the update to 8.5 either. You can’t do this to customers. Shameless BMW.

Not abandoned, just limited by tech. Don’t forget we well a LOT more models than Tesla. Believe me I’m pissed myself as an i4 owner, especially when the official press release’s language sounds like “ALL iDrive8 will get it if not through production then through OTA update” so yeah, I fully am immersed in the same wtf frustration,

Not to my knowledge, bur starting July it will get the android based iDrive9!
That is ridiculous that a 3-series bought now won’t get that update.
Hardware difference unfortunately… a simple thing like MGU21 vs MGU22 makes all the processing power difference :(

I have 2023 ix drive50. It is frustrating that I dont get idrive8.5. Is it possible to pay for new hardware and get upgraded to 8.5
Not that I’m aware of… I mean anything is possible, the question becomes how much and I’d only assume it’s prohibitively expensive.
Is there a difference between factory build and OTA for Idrive 8.5 also will all cars get gaming and TH-cam?
Gaming is TBA (but likely yes) TH-cam should be in any car with 5G personal esim
