Stars: Robert Wagner, Jeffrey Hunter, John Lund
    Genres: History, Western
    Country: USA
    Language: English

    Storyline:
The story of the peace mission from the US cavalry to the Cheyenne Indians in Wyoming during the 1870s. The mission is threatened when a civilian surveyor befriends the chief's son and falls for the chief's daughter. Written by Col Needham col@imdb.com
    Review:
This is a truly epic Western - epic in the moral sense: It operates as a great ceremony, a funeral ode for a great people, and the Homeric nobility of their doomed warrior heroes. The whole film sweeps majestically along with the native Americans to the bitter end of their doomed civilisation, and all the distracting side-plots are merely adumbrated at the margins of the action. The U.S. Cavalry, too, is given its due meed of admiration for the honest professionalism of its best soldiers, and the finest representatives of its military tradition. In this, Webb's film is reminiscent of a John Ford Cavalry Western. But it has something else: The awareness of a 'great game' - almost in the sense this term was applied by the English to their Imperial adventure ? being played out with mutual honour and respect, even admiration and fondness, between the great rivals for possession of an entire Continent.
This is a truly great film, unblemished by the jittery special pleading of Hollywood that bespeaks the unacknowledged guilt of the American White Man. This is a sincere film - not a film of gestures: It is, as I began by saying, a grand Ceremony. And in the Ceremony is the aching sense of the loss of a Great Game which conferred greatness upon all who were brave enough to participate on equal terms. Written By philipdavies.

I love and enjoy watching the old Indian movies. I can and do watch this movie every it pops up on mh phone. The injustice the Native Indians received is sad. I being of Cherokee blood know the injustice and theft they have had to endure because of the White Man's greed.

    • @lorimiller4301
      @lorimiller4301 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

He gave his compassion to Stefanie Powers. It was their love affair that made Hart to Hart the success that it was.
I believe Natalie was mad enough to tell on him and it would've ruined his career. She probably made the fatal mistake by saying that's it, I'm out of here and I'm telling the world about you. He had always been portrayed as a ladies man. In 1981 he would've been over if Natalie told. She'd already divorced him once for the same behavior.
The whole thing is very sad. Especially for Lana. She didn't drink the kool-aid. The kids did.
I'm sure Natalie will be the first face he sees when he crosses over.

Great movie thanks. But, don't understand as to the why in comments you wrote ""possession of an entire continent".
There are amazing stories of native Americans tribes, by Americans I do means as a Continent such as the Mapuches in the Southern part of Chile who never surrendered to the Spaniards and this signed a treaty around 1750.

That's true. We live out the programming from our childhoods on to our lovers. We become one of our parents and they become the other and we try to work out our problems.
If only more people understood what was happening and why, it would lead to easier communication and less stress.
Learning about narcissism is a very good thing to do in order to protect yourself too.

American War of Independence was finished 1783. For about 239 years USA had more than 200 wars out of its teritory, and probably about only 20 years without wars.
Signed about 500 treaties or peace contracts with Indians and never kept it. Many Indians tribe are nearly exterminated...
This movie we like is 'sweet' Hollywood one with happy ending. Or not? Who care these days is it fiction or not!?

Entertaining, and almost completely fictitious (the Crisp opening and ending monologues seem authentic). Ft. Laramie is on the Platte River (literally) among the foothills of eastern Wyoming. But, the fort has no walls (never did) and all the treaties were signed at the fort (the Cheyenne villages be off-limits to the whites). Great acting, adventurous screenplay (although some of the opening transitions are a bit odd), and neat period costuming. Debra Paget is till dreamy and Wagner is a bit too skinny in the saddle. And Hunter will always be Capt. Pike for me!
