    I wasn't familiar with the BCB stove and solid gel fuel so I learned something from your demonstration. I have used Esbit and its US military equivalent many times in the Marine Corps. Conserving generated heat through the use of a windscreen and covered cup/pot is important especially as the outside temperature drops. Your video demonstrated those points very well. Thanks.

    Not a balanced test at all, the ESBIT competes as long as you use twice as many fuel tabs, and a home made wind break !

    Been using my Esbit for decades now burning trioxane tabs. Took all of 3 minutes to build a wind shield that looks exactly like the one that comes with your BCB. My canteen cups balances nicely. Being retired military i don’t have th opening of use and toss as another commenter posted. Esbit has been my go to stove since at least the 1980s.

    Theyre both bcb stoves, esbit are owned by bcb international

    You used 2 fuel tabs for the esbit stove, so in fact, you are paying twice as much for fuel

    I’ve been using this type of stove since the 80s I now use the fire dragon for best performance always use a surrounding wind shield and a lid on your cup if I’m just boiling water for a brew i use the trangia small kettle it will boil in 5 minutes no problem.

    I use the BCB for my SHTF kit, I would’ve loved to use hexi but the smell is a major issue since this bag is stored in my room and such, one thing I’ve actually done the BCB stoves are so cheap I bought 2 and then nicked the windshield from the other one, works a beauty on my Yugoslavian milsurp mess kit

    Rolling boil, not "roaring". Good tip about using a piece of foil, maybe even cut a flat piece of tin that clips on to copy the Dragon's windshield?

    esbit if the same as Hexamine is now banned in the UK due to it use in homemade explosives use. Used hex blocks for years in the UK ration packs, not used the Firedragon yet but not much else available in the UK now

    I know this is a test but in practice a lid reduces boil time a lot
    Firedragon is British Military issue and it doesn't have the delightful stale fish smell of the esbit

    You need good shelter or a windscreen or use them in a hole dug in the ground.

    Another advantage of the BCB is price the esbit costs twice as much as the BCB also you can use the fuel as a hand sanitizer 12:45 12:45

    Will a Stanley cook cup fit on the Fire Dragon or would the stove need modifying to do so?

    • @bristolrovers27
      @bristolrovers27 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will fit on, the firedragon has more size settings than the esbit

      How do either not work well? The is it is like 70 years old. Seen plenty of real world use by millions of soldiers

    They are both a use and throw away stove really. Designed for single mission use, at the end of a mission they go in the trash bin. But still good fun getting the most from them. 👍
