Instead of letting plastic stay in the ocean, this community found a way to turn litter into something useful again. What are your thoughts on this attempt to help solve the world's plastic problem?

National Geographic I think if we stop producing plastic that would help, but we also have to be real that we cant live without plastic..maybe our scientists may invent plastic that is environment friendly?or if there is, then that is a great help!

National Geographic I’d like to see a follow up on the coral reefs and if it has helped bring the fish back. At the very least, this gives fishers an incentive to hold onto their nets,

Huge respect to people who bring environmental awareness to my homeland. It's been to the point of almost no return, and some ecosystems are completely dead from the rapid industrialization the Philippines went through (Pasig River for example) but there's still hope, and it's slowly getting better.

she said it so perfectly when she said it's all about striking the right balance. protecting or preventing further marine destruction on one hand and offering livelihood to the community on another. this effort should be replicated wherever it could possibly be applied. i really hope that we will see the day when there will be no more plastic in the world. how can the world spend so much on so many things in this modern world and yet unable to invest money, time and effort to finding an alternative to plastic. plastic is the worst invention to mankind.

This would be much more beneficial if those factories where nets are transformed into carpets were put on-site. It would greatly affect not only the environmental problem, it would also help in one of the most widespread problem in the world, POVERTY.
At first i though they were just recycling nets, but when I got to the part where they said that those nets were being exported to europe for manufacturing, I immediately think of the colonial era wherein the colonies would sent raw materials to the countries they are subjected to to be processed and manufactured to new materials.
They are helping the community, yes. But they are not helping enough. Im starting to think that developed countries are using “environmental” acts to boost their own interests on underdeveloped communities.
Well, that’s me, i dunno about you.
