  • Alex Ames loves the feeling of his driver but has less awareness of the club head with his irons. Luckily our expert club fitter Mark Woodward knows how to replicate this feeling and unlock his swing!

    Thank you for this very informative presentation showing how heavier weight shafts can improve ball striking and feel.

    I'm glad he mentioned the variables of being in a studio and definitely swinging harder and faster ...no one goes full tilt on a course ...keep at it mate you'll move path just needs work 👍👍

      It is sometimes a challenge for the fitter to determine how someone swings on course - some players do go full tilt on course and are actually better that way but it is rare. As you say a little swing work and good improvements are there to be had!

    Mark is a legend - methodical and always seeking marginal gains - really enjoyed my session with him and his patience !!

      Thanks Dave. Really pleased to hear that

    I love watching a good fitting video. It always amazes me just what a difference a weight of shaft can have. If you are not getting fit in this kind of environment you are potentially missing out on getting the best out of your equipment.

      Thanks Paul and that is a great point. The skill of the fitter is to really try to understand the player in front of you which Mark did brilliantly here and without that you could miss out on large potential gains

    For his speed he clearly doesn't need the stronger T200 but that's his choice to stay with the same heads.
    I'd like to have seen him in the PX 5.5 prior to moving to the LZ, 5grams lighter granted so may not have worked.
    Can I ask why lie angle isn't dialled in at the start? Surely that would lead to better results throughout the fitting?

      @Precision_Golf  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Lie is a find tune to performance and only really relevant to dial in once you have the timing where you want it so would require a secondary test later on too. If obviously off then we will test earlier in the session so it is not having an affect on strike but fine tuning start line and mild shot shape control is the main function when making small adjustments

    With all the best intentions, they guy is a mid-handicap player and trying to force a draw when his swing is out to in. He's trying to run before he can walk.
    If you play a fade then go with it as Mark says. Distance doesn't seem to be an issue and he's probably swinging at 95% ++ all the way up to 26:45, where he says he'll dial it back.
    He looks like he's working on something too, in the down swing, which is good. Nothing a couple of lessons won't help him with.
    Not sure he's fully clear on whether he wants distance or dispersion from this fitting - hard to get both, even with the team at PG being the best in the UK. Correction - at 33mins he's clearly after distance.

    Do you guys ever recommend shaft shortenings during fittings?

    • @Precision_Golf
      @Precision_Golf  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We certainly do and sometimes (particularly with woods) it is a way of markedly improving ball striking

    His short game must be decent if he hits irons like that.

    • @robinc3307
      @robinc3307 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      With his speed ...playing off 12 he has to be erratic...has the distance of a low single figure player....he should improve very quickly....

    • @willfieldiii7150
      @willfieldiii7150 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@robinc3307 I agree. I play off 5 and my 7 iron is 172 yards, so the general numbers are familiar.. His irons would normally cost someone a shot per hole..
      I would also add not to get caught up on playing a draw, it's not all it's cracked up to be, go neutral or slight fade

      It will serve him well once the iron play improves!

    No offense intended but Alex needs more of an instruction then club fitting. For starter, he needs to understand the principles of Low Point and Ball Contact to at least get the essentials of face control first to get a better dispersion. With 90mph for 6 iron and just a hair slower the PGA average, it is a shame he is leaving lots on the table as he continues to play army golf.

      Sorry for the late reply.
      You are right, all golfers need help with their technique but not all golfers want to or have the time they would like to devote to practice and in those instances we have to do the best we can for them and to advise the best route forward.
