    In this video I'm going to share with you the reason why you should NEVER consider Toast POS for your restaurant POS system. It has nothing to do with their technology. It's their ethics and morals that has me hitting the brakes, turning around and running for the hills. Find out why.

    UPDATE: Almost immediately after the release of this video, I learned that it was announced a few days after the article that Toast has retracted the fee they implemented. Hooray! It's rare that angry public outcry gets any results, so chalk one up for the good guys. Nevertheless, I am keeping this video up because though I appreciate that they retracted the fee, I'm certain it was more to avoid public persecution than because it was the right thing to do. As I mention in the video, this isn't the first time they've been called out for shady tactics, and the fact that they thought it was ok to add this fee in the first place reveals who they are as a business. I still believe you should STAY AWAY. Cheers.

    Hi Dave, I've been practicing but I can't seem to fill my glasses with the standard recipes. I know I have to account for ice and stuff. Is there an amount that is standard. For example, if I have a 6 oz glass, do I pour 4 oz's of liquids and let the ice fill the rest, or 4 oz's, etc.? Hope this question makes sense lol. Will the bars let me know what the pours are for their drink glasses or am I making this overcomplicated somehow?

    • @DaveAllredTheRealBarman
      @DaveAllredTheRealBarman  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, the bars will have their own recipes that you will learn (though I can't promise the portions will be correct; many bars have no idea what they're doing, which is weird, I know). As far as filling them up, it's important that you have the right glassware and that you pack the glass with ice to the top. In addition, if you shake any cocktails, it will dilute a bit and fill up even more with liquor. But in general, if it's a good bar they will train you on all this.

    If you could design a 100% perfect POS (assuming the business behind it is ethical), what would you change/include in it compared to whats currently available and why? Thanks for the video. My fiancé’s restaurant just got the toast system about a week ago. They went from the aloha system to toast. Employees are realizing that there’s a 1% fee on all checks even if there isn’t a 20% gratuity for parties of 5 of more. Managers don’t know either and they’re going to talk to corporate. Numbers aren’t adding up right and now you can’t even see how much tips you made for the night to keep track of it. You can only log in and see how much your check is. Not sure if it’s toast or the restaurant but it started when the system was changed. Any advice?

    I reviewed the most recent Toast Financial statement 10k for 2022. In short, what they are doing is similar to what the restaurant industry does with tips. Moving cost from the restaurant to the customer. Quick summary of their financials:
    They have been at a net loss since IPO, but they have been rapidly reducing losses the last 3 years. Reduction does not seem to be due to this added fee, since their margins are similar but rather due to volume (economies of scale). The conclusion is that they passed on the cost from the customer (restaurants) to the end user. I.e how tips work

    • @DaveAllredTheRealBarman
      @DaveAllredTheRealBarman  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      You are 100% correct TS, except that the difference is that it's a matter of choice for the restaurants to do this with their own customers. The people who come in and eat are not Toast's customers. The restaurant owners are. Toast is a technology that the owners pay to help run their business better. They are a 3rd party. This is like if I owned a video security company and installed video surveillance cameras in your retail store to help prevent theft and then took $1 from each sale you made to help pay for my "research and development". They should not have a right to decide what the customer is charged. It seems small, but this is where it all starts.
