This contraption is called the Spin Chill. It's a handheld drink chiller that rapidly spins a can or bottle until it's ice cold. I've featured a similar product before that sits on your countertop, this one is cheaper and more portable.

The whole portable cause is defeated once it requires a large jar of ice cold water.

Adding salt to the solution will make the solution's melting point higher, which will make the solution colder (involving the objects in the solution).
You should have compared it to another can in the water thats not spinning

The spin definitely cools it faster. We spin hot drinks when we want them cooled down faster and leave them in the ice when we want it cooled slower (so it doesn't turn to ice while we're out of the room).

It does, because I sometimes put a can of juice in the freezer and it takes a hour to cool it. Spinning moves the cold water over it making it faster

It will, I've done it before. at the 7 minute mark, rotate the can a few times whilst it's laying on the side, then close it, and it'll be cold.

Huh, I thought the idea was to help contribute to a party when someone graciously invites you to one. I always bring at least a case of beer or a 5th of whiskey to any party I'm invited to. Usually the host will provide methods of cooling said alcohol.

1 minute is less time than 15 minutes. Though i will agree that if you're that impatient for a drink than just drink it warm.
In the video it barely even changed the temperature of the can in one minute, it takes more than that.
If you have a good freezer ( not refrigerator) it will make it cool enough in ~5 minues.
Even if it took 15 minutes for a drink to cool, this product would take more, it's stupid. Imagine you have a big can of Redbull and you want to drink it right away, you have to get out your fucking "portable" baththub, get unreal amounts of ice out of the freezer and pour kilos of it into the mini baththub, then place the drinks in, charge the battery for the spinner in case it's out, then keep the device in hand for 2-5 minutes while it's spinning and VOILA. CHILL DRINK. And all this because you wanted to drink one can of Redbull. Doesn't that sound like something you DON'T want to do when you're eager to drink something? Instead of wasting 10 minutes trying to prepare this bullshit you could place the beverage in the freezer and do something productive or entertaining while it's cooling.
Plus you can put the whole six-pack in the freezer to chill at the same time.

Devon Blake The spinner is meant to cool room temperature drinks faster than simply setting them in ice water and leaving them there. But it's not really intended for large gatherings. The host should already have cold drinks prepared. I was simply correcting the op.

16.5C is "plenty cold"..? In what world? You do realize that the inside of your fridge is 4 degrees right? That is literally more than 4 times as hot. And it's not exactly super portable when you need to bring a large container of ice water to chill it in. Useless monogadget is useless.
You also failed to do a comparison test of a beer without this gadget in the ice water, to see if it even does anything.

MiniMash You're right, and that makes it even worse, since the inside is probably not as cold as the outside (even with all the spinning).
Excludos The inside is most of the time colder, since most liquids conduct heat better than most solids. Also why cold water feels much colder than cold air, even if they're the same temperature.
An IR temperature measurer does not measure how much heat something conducts. if you measure a piece of metal and a book in the same room, they will give the same results, even if the metal feels colder. The temperature of a can of beer who got dumped in a bath of ice water is not going to be colder on the inside than the outside, even if it's spun to mitigate this a little bit

That method still takes about 20+ minutes to reach the same temperature all the way through. It really doesn't help cool it much faster at all.

If you test something like this next time please don't forget to test it without spinning. As the video is it says nothing because we don't now how much faster the spinning cools the can down.

Well, putting a beer in the freezer (not refrigerator) will bring it to a desirable temperature in 10-15 minutes. So I'd say this actually works.
On the other hand... this is absolutely not something I'd buy. Just the ice bath and shit. I mean even if I get a bunch of guests wanting a beer, they're not coming for a five minute chat. They can wait 15 minutes for an ice cold beer.

+Icy12 it's not impractical. Have a small bucket of ice-cubes in the freezer and every time you want a cool drink, take it out and use the spinner. Lew used too many ice-cubes which is not necessary. Cold water would do the same thing too.

Also, warm liquid isn't going to move to the outside of the can since the contents are going to be roughly the same density throughout because of the spinning. The reason it cools faster than a can sitting is ice water is you're adding convection to a system previously only moving heat by conduction, so the heat from the can can move into the ice more efficiently.
Do a comparison with ice water chill and then the Spin Chill so we know it's better.
There are some videos on line comparing, but it ends up being around 30 times faster. Depends on a couple different factors like the temperature that it starts at, how much water vs. ice, rate of spin, etc.

This is the perfect format for the current generation of teens and young adults with low attention spans. I would like to file a lawsuit against the TH-cam content creator "Unbox Therapy" for using methods of entertainment that go against the TH-cam terms of service.
