An interesting fact, the creator of Wonder Woman was a man named William Marston. He was an American psychologist and him and his wife Elizabeth Halloway were responsible for an early prototype of the Polygraph Machine, or the lie detector test used by police today. Diana Prince (Wonder Woman) was based off of the real life woman Olive Byrne who was a student of William and ended off in a polyamorous relationship with William and his wife. You can see the similarities between the Polygraph Machine and Wonder Woman's Lasso Of Truth which also had ties to William Marston's idea's of bondage and willing submission.
I'm not a comic book person. So I can't say much about the original Wonder Woman stories. But I grew up watching the U.S. TV series "Wonder Woman" starring Lynda Carter. But I think lots of people have fond memories of the Lynda Carter Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman's origin in the comics isn't 100% set in stone, and it's been retold a few times. The first time she appeared, I think they touched on the most important plot beats of that in this movie... but it wasn't as deep of an origin story as Superman or Batman had. She is certainly a symbol for first and second wave feminism. Back then it was more about being treated as equals, and helping men learn from their failures rather than berate them. But when the Justice League started, the writers made her a secretary of all things, and didn't treat her well. Maybe that's why they made the secretary/slavery joke. They had a Wonder Woman show in the late 70s (which was really a family show), but since then she'd only appeared in cartoons until this movie... so it was good to have her back, and this was a good movie! I like Gal Gadot, but I don't think they gave her enough to work with here as there do seem to be some gaps in the story. But unfortunately the Batman movies you watched (except Batman v Superman) have nothing to do with this continuity or the next. Speaking of... Some of the components were shoehorned in, tropes were slathered, but this was mostly an opportunity to film Gal in slow motion. Doe eyed, toned, posed and postured, and delicious in every frame. Totally worth the price of admission.

"Villains who twirl their mustaches are easy to spot; those who clothe themselves in good deeds are well camouflaged." - Jean-Luc Picard General Ludendorff was a good distraction for the real Ares a.k.a. Sir Patrick Morgan.
Wonder Woman was pretty average, albeit better than most things Snyder produces. I had big hopes that he would let Patty Jenkins direct a more humor and character driven film. Because she is far better at that than the action set pieces. Why hire a woman to breathe life into the character and story, then give her a crap story and place CGI above the story, humor, dialogue and acting? It could have been so much better and even great, with a bit more daring and a bit less cheese. The initial parts were great, (cept some of the cheesy slow-mo early fight scenes on the island, way too much 300 type poo) and if they'd kept it based in London, after they arrived, they could have done so much more with her, with her humor played off against the sexism of the time..... Because the powerful woman in 1917 London played brilliantly against the stuffy Britain of that age. She was quite literally a goddess in London, then she just went out into the european lowlands or wherever and it got lamer and lamer. Gadot is a pretty lame actress but she WAS PERFECT for this role. Her humor and comic timing worked brilliantly in the initial phases and in London. All that dumb trench fighting and the sort of sniper squad she was with and the crap in germany could have been tossed in the trash, they could have kept her in London, and the big fights could have been Zeppelin raids....where she flew with the pilots and basically was jumping out of their planes onto the zeppelins, getting inside and kicking the crap out of all the crews of the zeppelins....would have been amazing, and what CGI was made for. Could have been THE centerpiece action scene you would dream of while ALSO allowing the humor in London to flourish. Lucy Davis was GREAT as Etta Candy....and they just threw her away, after that great initial part. Snyder always throws away great dialogue, characters and interplay in favor of the cheesiest action possible. Imagine leaving all the action set in London, with Etta Candy and Wonder Woman there. So much could have been done. So much potential, totally wasted. Instead it had way too much Zack Snyder overseeing the story and production and turning it to nonsense.
I liked this movie, it was one of the better DC films. The second one was not quit as good but worth a look. The Wonder Woman from the late 70's was a TV show with Linda Carter. As far as I know, there was no movie. Anyway, back to this film, Diana was overcome with grief after seeing Steve sacrifice himself so, as per usual superhero protocol, flies into a rage and takes out the bad guy. It was just the motivation she needed after dealing with emotions she had no prior experience with. Being naive was part of her charm, the "wonder" of seeing things for the first time. Overall a good movie. Keep the journey going! Next up, Justice League (Synder cut is better, just saying...)
I liked how Gal Gadot played Diana the so innocent and pure person, she was in point in her role. You should watch the 2nd Wonder Woman 1984,whatever they say, maybe you liked maybe not.And of course Justice League.
The reason this is set in World War I is because DC Comics has a new rule that their heroes can't interfere with World War 2. The reason they give is that the Nazis had the Lancepoint of Longinus (the Spear of Destiny, aka the spearhead that pierced Christ's heart), and it negated the abilities of metahumans/superheroes.
I think “simple” is the word to describe this movie, this one is a origin movie with a simpler story to follow, completely enjoyable, with a lot of heart but it lacks of the epicness we were getting from Man of Steel, BvS and SS, but is not bad, it is far from it, people enjoyed this one too, it did good in the box office, also first female-led superhero film in more than a decade back then. The only thing people and fans criticized a little bit including myself was that ending since this movie has the weakest ending of the SnyderVerse, they definitely held back with this one a lot, and that’s a shame after seeing her in action in BvS (and then in ZSJL ) and how powerful she is, it could have had a spectacular ending, originally the third act was going to be huge, but they changed it, they also changed Ares and made him look weaker, you will see more of his original look in ZSJL, but yes they reshot some stuff in WW too cause you know, they got scared after BvS so Geoff Johns and Warner ruined everything. Now, Wonder Woman 84… That one is a really really really bad film a completely waste of potential and actors. Remember Zack Snyders Justice League is next and right there the original DCEU aka SnyderVerse sadly ends, you can watch Aquaman 2018 since it could fit in there but it is not part of it, still it kind of has the epicness of the SnyderVerse but still a very compromised story. Let’s just hope we can watch the original story conclude properly soon #RestoreTheSnyderVerse 🙌
Well... I really liked this movie a lot. It was a lot of fun, and surprisingly entertaining. Patty Jenkins's direction is nicely shot, the acting is fabulous, the music score is incredible, the action sequence are awesome, and the chemistry between Gal Gadot and Chris Pine is heartwarming. The character of Diana Prince is very interesting and active. She's always worries when all of the innocent people, including women and children, will die and suffer after Steve Trevor tells her that there's nothing they can do to save everyone, and she decides to stop the war from terrorizing this isolated world. It's a very thrilling, earnest, emotional and action-packed movie with Gal Gadot's charismatic performance, as well as the DC Extended Universe's best film, and succeeds in spectacular fashion. I respect your own opinion, but it is epic. A marginal thumbs up for me on "Wonder Woman". Wonder Woman (2017) 3.5/4 👍👍👍
I don't wouldn't describe Wonder Woman as a "typical" superhero hero movie. Spider-Man is what I would describe as the typical superhero movie. Just some unassuming guy and an extraordinary accident happens and he gains special abilities. That's typical. Not Wonder Woman. However, I have heard Wonder Woman compared to Captain America because their origins center around fighting Germans/Nazis. But she might have more in common with Thor because they both have godlike origins. But no other superhero has God origins but these 2. One could argue Shazam relates. I disagree. Billy Batson gets his powers from a magical ✨️ wizard that compare it's powers to the gods. Not the same thing. -OG
As everyone had already said, as I remember it, everyone really enjoyed this movie (they could have tweaked a few things in my opinion like when she is having that "language off" she couldn't possibly know any modern languages if they have been sequestered in their bubble for centuries the languages didn't even exist in their 1918 form). It is the sequel everyone said was awful.
Really a good movie. It’s a fantasy movie based on a fantasy character, therefore some unreal things happen. They should’ve laid off the sequel though.
Please give the Star Trek franchise a chance. 🖖🏿🖖🏾🖖🏽🖖🏼🖖🏻🖖 You don't have to watch everything! Maybe: top ten Classic episodes = Star Trek 1 to 6 = top ten "The Next Generation" episodes = Star Trek 7 to 10 = the three J.J. Abrams Star Trek movies? ✌️
Just skip the original series entirely, they're unwatchable to most people. And in TNG just skip the cruddy episodes. There are lists online of the essential episodes from seasons 1-2, the 'bad' seasons. After that, it's amazing.
I concur with the comments below. Wonder Woman is amazing and a fantastic story arc! You don't have to go into movies with negative expectations if you're deciding to watch it. That's no fun.
Most comic heroes are built of of the root mythologies of the western world. Some newer characters are starting to use mythologies from the east but you will see things as they relate to Greek mythology. If you did not pick it up in school or you are from more eastern cultures you may have to do some research on these old mythological stories to understand where the comics are coming from. The Amazons are a mixture of Greek and Eastern European/Western Asian mythologies. an interesting study if you did not get these during schooling.
Wonder Woman is fantastic. Definitely the best Non-Gunn DCEU movie, without question. 1984 is a bit bad though, although still better than Justice League, BvS, Man of Steel, or the 2016 Suicide Squad.
Overall, I liked Wonder Woman and think Gal Gadot did a great job filling Lynda Carter's boots. It still bugs me how much it strayed from the Wonder Woman I grew up with at the end, though.
I'm pretty much 100% on-side with your take -- it's a decent film, but far from good, let alone great. The narrative structure is clunky, and some details just required too much suspension of disbelief (sailing from the Mediterranean to London overnight just makes ZERO sense). Oh and absolutely love, love, LOVE your hair in this. Wowzers girl :P
Funny to think the original is now considered bad. On retrospect it's their own fault, for not making the sequel's name really distinct (while still being set in the past times) and well the original had it's problems anyway that just got less of a pass as time went by.
This wonder woman was great. The second movie 1984 was horrible. I tried rewatching 1984 a year later and was mad at myself for robbing myself of 2 hours of my life.
Wonder Woman is a demi-god, daughter of a human and a god. Zach Snyder's Justice League goes into a lot more detail. Make sure to watch that and not the theatrical Justice League that was ruined by Joss Weedon.
Sure you're not confusing WW with Captain Marvel? lol This movie is amazing, the sequel is lackluster but both still better than those trash Captain Marvel movies lol.
The first Wonder Woman & the Suicide Squad (the second one) are the only great movies in the DCEU era. Shazam was really good. Everything goes from alright to garbage.
Wow Blue , it’s noticeable the older you get , the better looking you get. Right now you’re pretty darn gorgeous. I imagine when you reach thirty you will be stunningly beautiful !
I saw this when it originally came out in theaters and absolutely loved it. The sequel, not so much. My first introduction to Wonder Woman was as a little boy in the 1970's, with the Wonder Woman TV series with Lynda Carter, in addition to the Super Friends Saturday morning cartoon. There was also a television movie before the Lynda Carter series with Cathy Lee Crosby as Wonder Woman, but that was very different from the original source material.
I thought Wonder Woman was a good, but not great movie. It's the best of the DC universe I've seen, but not on a par with the best of Marvel. It was a bit frustrating/tantalizing to watch it, as there were several isolated moments where I thought that this is so close to being great but not quite there. Still, a good watch, and the most heart of any DCU movie. The sequel seemed rather cruel in the treatment of the Steve character.

i get the hate that some other dceu movies got. but not this one. the nomansland-scene is my favourite one. everyone is hopeless and she pushes forward.
Some of the components were shoehorned in, tropes were slathered, but this was mostly an opportunity to film Gal in slow motion. Doe eyed, toned, posed and postured, and delicious in every frame. Totally worth the price of admission.
Hi Miss Blue from the Sunshine state of Florida !!!! As For the older show in the 80 ' Was a TV show starring Linda Carter & Yes its in My Super Hero Collection of Almost 7 k DVD collection ( IMHO ) This Movies
Effects & Story is far Better than the TV show ever was Yet Linda Carter was A True Mesmerizing Woman !!! Still I a also own The Batman series with Adam West also a TV Show !!! As always the like button 🔳 has been Illuminated 😊
Amazons! Warrior women. No men.
The older version was Linda Carter was a TV series.
Blue watching wonder woman wearing bunny ears! How cute is that? ❤
"Villains who twirl their mustaches are easy to spot; those who clothe themselves in good deeds are well camouflaged." - Jean-Luc Picard
General Ludendorff was a good distraction for the real Ares a.k.a. Sir Patrick Morgan.
It is not Marvel. I always say DC is to Marvel like Donald Duck is to Duffy Duck...
You should look into getting a new mic, yours cuts out every 5seconds.
It invisibility curtain to hide island from others but barrier can be penetrated.
first one was great, second one had wonder woman SA'ing a man.
Wonder Woman is easily in the top 5 comic adaptations.
Wonder Woman (2017) 3.5/4 👍👍👍
Little Diana is adorable.
Always enjoyed this movie since its release. Definitely an A-, one of the strongest DC movies.
@@Christobanistanno they aren’t u are just talking out of ur bum. Stop replying to every comment and I’ll stop replying to every comment ur in
Good movie, the sequel (WW1984) is the crap one.
Opposite Day I guess.
@@Christobanistan Yes, if you like heroes who are rapists, I can see how you might like WW84.
WW is awesome. Great reaction. Thank you.
I think Gal Gadot does comedy better. Sorry I forget the movie where she is a spy.
The sequel is titled *Wonder Woman 1984* but it's from the year 2020 😂
It's not a movie from 1984. It takes place in that year 🤗
I concur with the comments below. Wonder Woman is amazing and a fantastic story arc! You don't have to go into movies with negative expectations if you're deciding to watch it. That's no fun.
Above average… the movie 🍿 lol
The Twist 😊 22:19
I really, really enjoyed this flick. I also liked the second but it is not nearly as well written. Great reaction!
Lynda Carter played "wonder woman"" in the t.v.series.
Next watch Zack Snyder's Justice League.
11:44: Yes. 🐺
Trixy you have had the most amazing glow up over the last little while! I can’t even. You’re doing fabulous! 😍
Theres a 2009 animated Wonder Woman movie that should check out.
I love Lynda Carter, but Gal Gadot brings a new level of mystery, badassery and intrigue to my favorite Amazon/demigoddess superhero.
Wonder Woman is fantastic. Definitely the best Non-Gunn DCEU movie, without question. 1984 is a bit bad though, although still better than Justice League, BvS, Man of Steel, or the 2016 Suicide Squad.
Diana was a bratty little girl that didnwhat ever she wanted regardless of what she was told. She never grew up. Aries was the true hero.
Someone hates women and its u
Wrong she work for museum in Paris in restoration department. She also daughter of queen of gods and Zeus king of Greek gods.
Good job Trixy! Well done!
Decent = good.
Look at the film: The Man with the Iron Heart is part of the history of the Czech Republic of my country.
The first wonder women was great
Funny to think the original is now considered bad. On retrospect it's their own fault, for not making the sequel's name really distinct (while still being set in the past times) and well the original had it's problems anyway that just got less of a pass as time went by.
Watch Shindler's List and then tell us again with a straight face that those German soldiers were innocent (or JUST following orders).
Yes
This wonder woman was great. The second movie 1984 was horrible. I tried rewatching 1984 a year later and was mad at myself for robbing myself of 2 hours of my life.
Wonder Woman is a demi-god, daughter of a human and a god. Zach Snyder's Justice League goes into a lot more detail. Make sure to watch that and not the theatrical Justice League that was ruined by Joss Weedon.
Yes, Ares is her Brother. But in Greek Mythology Zeus's daughters were always more powerful than his sons. The most Powerful Greek God was Athena.
Everything goes from alright to garbage.
how dare you with this title? This movie is epic
This one was great. The sequel was awful.
I don't understand why people didn't like the sequel.
@@Christobanistanbecause it was awful
I thought Wonder Woman was a good, but not great movie. It's the best of the DC universe I've seen, but not on a par with the best of Marvel. It was a bit frustrating/tantalizing to watch it, as there were several isolated moments where I thought that this is so close to being great but not quite there. Still, a good watch, and the most heart of any DCU movie. The sequel seemed rather cruel in the treatment of the Steve character.
This movie was great you are thinking of the sequel... was OK but with some issues... but Patty (the Director) knocked it out of the park with this...
Oof . The next WW is sooooo bad. But so bad it might be fun to watch you react to how awful it is.
