My recent trip to Korea leads me to believe that most of the population understands english but are too embarrassed/shy to reply back in english. Felt like everyone understood exactly what I was saying to them.

Well said, but there are a few others who are fluent without the Korean accent when speaking fluent English, and one that comes to mind is Teo Yoo, not sure why he did not make the video or in more SK dramas and movies. Perhaps, he is busy. Interesting how certain English alphabets are not apart Hangul. The V sound in their language is P, for instance, violin in English, and when spoken in their language is piolin.
