    thanks so much for the video. i've learnt so much by watching how you did it. i bought split faced modular tiles (sort of marble effect) for my kitchen. Hopefully, i will be able to do it myself. Never done before, so a bit nervous and there's a good chance i will mess up!

      Thanks, tidying up is always the worst part of the job and nobody ever shows that!!

    Looks great I've just bought the exact same tiles for my wall at my driveway. What adhesive did you use? It'll be going onto grey block.
    Thanks
    Scott

    You could have used kerakoll h40 gel you get 4 hours in the bucket it's an Eco product and it is unbelievably easy to work with

    Just about to fit some of these to a raised concrete block border.
    I notice you use the erbauer tile cutter, thinking of getting one of these - how did you find it? Have you used it for anything else afterwards / before?

      I think it's on its 3rd blade, so yes, plenty of use before and since. The bearing is still good so the cuts are clean and I use a fine diamond wet stone to polish any chipping on glazed tiles if needed..the cuts look like factory. It's handled hard floor tiles and resin sparkles up to 12mm and the table extension is useful on 600x600s. It's not hugely powerful but I like it for small kitchen and bathroom jobs and I also have the 500 watt version and it's ok too..you can carry it like a briefcase!!

    Instead of putting down plaster first, could I use STS Construction cement board and just simply screw it into the wall? Thanks all

      Yes, that should work ok. Use good quality construction screws so they don't corrode.

    Nice job.Where did you buy the tiles?

      Hi Richard, thanks for the comment. Most good tile suppliers should be able to get the tile for you. They come in different sizes and colours as they are a natural product.

    Is a scratch coat necessary? My wall is block so not sure if weatherboard or scratch coat is needed

      I wouldn't have thought so. you may consider a primer tho.

    • @dawbuilds2080
      @dawbuilds2080  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A primer would be a good idea to reduce the suction into the block and a good adhesive should bond onto the rough block really well.

    thank you for this video did you use just water at 10min?

    • @dawbuilds2080
      @dawbuilds2080  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the adhesive is water soluble until it's set so cleans up easily.

    What air? you didn't back butter, which is crazy (stopped watching from there)... Those tiles will fall off in couple to few years guaranteed.

    • @dawbuilds2080
      @dawbuilds2080  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You need to press the air out of the furrows which is why you always towel in straight lines and not circles which traps air. Back buttering is a really good idea especially on larger format tiles but it needs to be even applied. I never back butter small format tiles. If in doubt about the coverage, I lift the first one off and take a look. BTW, these ones are still up 3 years later and 8 years on the other wall. Good adhesive.

    Top job though

  • @MMD-z6z

    You cut the bottom tile short but say you dont want the tile to touch the floor 🤣 The wall right next to it has the tiles touching the floor (your base). Thats funny

    • @dawbuilds2080
      @dawbuilds2080  ปีที่แล้ว

      These tiles are porous so it's not a good idea to have them against the wet ground hence the gap below them and the finishing sealer. Once the adhesive has cured it will act as barrier to moisture from the back.
