- A team of scientists at the Imperial College London and Duke-NUS Medical School in Singapore, may have found a miracle drug that can stop signs of ageing and extend lifespan. During their trial on mice, they found that the drug extended life by nearly 25%. Scientists are hoping that the discovery can potentially slow ageing on humans too.

For those interested, there are several other experimental modalities that have given rodents increased lifespan of more than 20%. I’ll list them now. Rapamyosin, mesencymal stem cell transfer, periodic Yamanaka factors rejuvenation, klotho , follistatin, 30% caloric restriction. This is not a full list however, the literature for all of these mentioned show 20% or more lifespan extension. So this new research has not dramatically, changed lifespan extension experiments, in rodents, however it does add to the list.
How much % would be gained if those modalities would be combined? What would the effect be when you start experimenting with the ratio's?

This research is about blocking il-11 protein. This protein cause inflammation in our body which is the main reason behind ageing.
They sure are good at making drugs to help mice, but rarely do these drugs have anywhere close to the same impact in humans. If this drug helps mice like 25% longer, maybe it will help humans live 2-5% longer, IF we're lucky.

Metformin is actively used by diabetic patients to regulate their blood sugar. But metformin also destroys the balance of blood sugar in your body causing it to be at low levels also causing problems in kidneys in the long run of intaking it.
Populations that live under tyranny, do not want that breed of rulers to live longer, even if for the sake of their offspring. To them, such drugs would be a curse and worst nightmare.

If you really want to live longer it takes effort! Effort people aren't interested or can't afford to doing! Working out is a lifelong element in ones life; healthy eating which is looked at as fuel you don't eat for pleasure; Herbal supplement regime after the age of 40; no alcohol, smoking or drugs; 8+ hours of regular sleep; can't take the socially structured life too seriously (stress); live where the air is clean, etc. It takes effort and money!
It's a step by step process. Look at it this way, if life can be increased by a few years, advancing science will add a few more years during that few year initial increase and so on, until extended longevity becomes a reality.

If it really works, then Govt should enforce parents not to have more than one child, as population increases and env becomes more polluted. As there will be more older ppl in the world, they can't work, their children will have to bear the responsibility of taking care of their parents for very long time.
