    When people see rot that bad they just say 'scrap it' something this iconic needs to be saved from the scrappers.

    I had a couple of 90s minis... Holy shit that thing is in a bad way. Worth saving a mk1 though they're big money :)

    It tickles me when l see what is salvageable today . It makes you realise how many good ones were scrapped ! Those cut out's in the front panel were added to aid cooling to the front brakes and particularly the disc brakes fitted on later Cooper "S" . Slightly Irish when the Mini Cooper came out in 1961!

      Morning Matt. I do like the daily updates but i can imagine they take up a lot of your time. It looks like its going to be a big restoration. Do what you thinks best suitable for you and your family. What ever you choose i will still look forward to watching them all. Keep up the excellent work.

    thats a lovely streaght old tub!! its genuine and mainly not got at,
    nice to see dad (H.M.V) and as said please keep as much metal as possable! not for any purist reason but just because if its done 50 years it aint going to rust overnight like the modern pannels, try to keep every single screw safe because they all have a job and they are made of good stuff!

  • @STIPOWER97
    @STIPOWER97 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    wow.....this is actually making me believe i might be able to restore my 92 mini city,have her 17years,my very first car,it is rusted to fuck,pulled her out of a ditch on the farm a year ago after 13years sitting,its down the back of my shed now in a sorry state,it will kill me to crush it but i think your videos show how far they can go and still come back,great viewing

    • @MattGreenWorks

    Love seeing videos with your dad, me and my dad are restoring my 89 Mayfair, which I've done all welding on and my dads done all the grinding, it's better when we don't talk to each other ;)

I will get back to the UK. some time and will go back to playing with Mini's yet again, I have owned just a humble 27 and worked on meany more. we learn ever day. I Respect you for showing that and the help and inspiration you give to other's. Am coming back for a mk1 cooper s project just to see me off as am only 60, and I want re-antiquate myself with Stella. More power to your elbow.

    cars today wont be in half the condition in half a century. should do odd episodes in town and even episodes at the farm.

    • @Gavichap
      @Gavichap 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wrong. Today's cars have galvanised bodies, so they are well predicted to last for many many more years than these rustbuckets from the '60s, '70s and '80s.

    Lovely to see you and your Dad working things out together and sharing time. Must be great having all his first hand knowledge right at hand as well. I lost my Dad when I was 21 so never had the chance to share this sort of time with him (he was 52) but c'est la vie. Good luck with the tin bashing!!

    • @MattGreenWorks
      @MattGreenWorks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes , he lives 5 hours away , so its good to see him / talk common interest , we men dont talk about personal stuff .. so good to talk cars ...lost my mum 10 years ago .. bloody cancer

    • @1chish
      @1chish 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Life can be a right twat sometimes but then it can be really sweet as you are enjoying now .. I was 12 when that car was built and my primary school was in Cowley, Oxford. Used to see the test ones over at the old airfield ..
      I am sure your Dad knows know why the Speedo was put where it was and why a certain hole in the body panel behind the rear seat was the way it was?.... they used to mount the whole body on a shaped spindle that fitted the speedo hole!
      Full of useless crap me! .. Anyway enjoy your rebuild ...

    Surely by the time that is restored,it's basically a new car.There's next to nothing serviceable of the original left.How does this work in the world of classic cars? How much has to be original?

    My friend once bought a 1983 Mini. The hole in the floor got bigger every week. It made a good donor car though.
