The Monkees Daydream Believer, 8 year olds first time listening. A big thank you to the copyright owners who allow the content to be used on TH-cam, no fuss.
We're still learning all the time, and in future I might disconnect from the internet while we're recording, I think the laptop was installing Windows updates and causing a few problems.
Lilly is so precious so glad her grand dad is introducing her to great music from his era.Love it when young generations love listening to great music from a different era.
This is one of those songs that is catchy on the first listen to adult and kid ears. Oh, Lilly! I think that when you get older, and especially after your grandfather is gone, you'll so appreciate that he introduced you to and shared this music with you, and you will reminisce on these shared moments with great affection. I hope so.
Lilly, I got to see The Monkees in concert at The Greek Theatre in 1986, I had won tickets to the concert, which included a meet and greet pre concert party, so I got to see them, along with Herman’s Hermits, Gary Puckett, and The Grass Roots, it was a great show….
I was your age, Lilly, when I heard this on TV the first time. I loved the Monkeys. They were a TV show about a fictional rock band, but they were so popular that the actors, who were musicians themselves, wound up going on tour. I just found your channel. Be patient, it takes time to build followers and views.
Listen, I am sure most of us will tell you that is just wonderful content to see you and your wonderful little grandaughter Lilly. But the best thing about this whole thing is sweet little Lillly will always now have the amazing digital diary of your relationship when she grows up. She will watch these the rest of your life. You are winning so big!
@@Lilly8Listens Hi Phil here. I'm wondering if Lilly would like "Ride like the wind" by Christopher Cross. My eldest granddaughter loved it when she was her age. Called it the "the horsey song" + Mike Oldfields "Moonlight Shadow" both great 80s songs
@@philipreed1847 The song she keeps singing at the moment is Neverending Story, I believe it's because her mum and dad watch something called "Stranger Things" a show that means nothing to me as I've never seen 1 second of it.
@@Lilly8Listens Same here!! My 15year old has moved on from melodic tunes to Heavy metal. ie. Slipknott. For example not my cup of tea. She's in process of forming a band in which she plays drums. Not heard them yet!!!!
It is just so fun, reviving and quite often sad hearing my peers all over the world share their story's about growing up to this song. Can't be a damn one of us under 60 YEARS old now and I relate to the wonderful storues from everyone here. But nothing, and I mean nothing, brings me more joy than seeing this wonderful relationship with Lilly and Grandpa. My father was a singer in the navy showband during WW2 and played everywhere and they would put him on a train every Saturday to go to Philladelphia PA to sing on Armed Forces Radio. I tried everything imaginable to find the footage to no avail. So you guys are very lucky.
I was Lily's age when I first heard The Monkees. They had a TV show that was on right after school and we never missed an episode. The show was based off of The Beatles movies like A Hard Days Night. It was very goofy and they always performed a song at the end of the show. They had extraordinary writers in fact the other song you thought Lily might know I'm a Believer covered in Shrek was written by Neil Diamond. In fact TH-cam has episodes of the original shows Lily and yourself might get a kick out of it
Yes Paul, I know I'm a Believer was in Shrek, that's why I thought she might know it. Mind you, I'm getting a bit confused myself, because I thought that "I Like To Move it" was in Shrek, but now I'm thinking it's in something else.
@@Lilly8Listens youre welcome I think its awesome showing Lilly old she really enjoys it an you guys get ti spend alot of bonding time I've come to realize that someone always has a problem with everything keep foing what you're doing youre doing great
Happy birthday to Lilly :) Would be interesting to hear/see her reaction to the very visual "take on me" video by a-ha. It's also extremely catchy too! (And it may get you loads of views too) :)
What a proud father you must be, Lilly is the epitomy of innocence and youthful magic. The world needs to see her image each and every day when they wake up, then maybe we can fix our troubles. Well done to the both of you.... ps I have not been so fortunate as you, to marry and have beautiful angelic children, but watching you and your delightful daughter makes up for some of it.. Please keep making these videos...
Thank you so much Trevor, but just one thing, my daughter is 38 years old, and she's Lilly's mum, I'm Lilly's grandad, and I'm out to show her the type of music she would never usually discover.
@@Lilly8Listens Well done Grandad, you've done extremely well with your lineage, and definitely passed on something very good. Blessings to your daughter, I'll bet she's a great mom..
Another great song . I was exactly Lily's age when this was No 1 in the UK . I can remember bouncing along singing this song on my way to primary school ! A suggestion for another big hit song from that year . ' Excerpt from a teenage opera ' by Keith West . Lilly might like it . Cheers !
Hi, Lilly. The Monkees was known as the American Beatles. And they had a TV show out called The Monkees what else would you call it. Stay safe to you and your loved ones.
The Monkee's were squarely aimed at the child and teen market. I loved them as child. There are a few others that lily might like of that ilk. Urban Spaceman by the Bonzos. Grocer Jack by Keith West. Chestnut Mare by The Byrds. Yummy Yummy Yummy, by the 1910 fruitgum company. I can't let Maggie go by the Honeybus . I would suggest some of the Beatles tracks like Yellow Submarine or Octopus garden, but they are very restrictive on uploads by reactors. Monkees were Mike Nesmith - hat and guitar. Davy Jones - singer. Peter Tork - piano. Micky Dolenze. Idiot with a tambourine - drummer. Thought Lily would like that one.
Thanks for that Andrew, I had no idea the 1910 Fruitgum company covered Yummy Yummy Yummy, but I do know the version by Ohio Express from 1968. I believe the real title of Grocer Jack is Excerpt from 'A Teenage Opera, unless it had a different name depending on what country you were in? Like Get it On by T Rex, for example, in America it was called Bang A Gong.
hi, have you listened the original one of this song?, was written like a country song . The monkees made A COVER...this is not the original one. By the way...i am waiting your reaction about "massachusets" of the bee gees.
The Monkees had first rate song writers. It might be time to introduce Lilly to The Beatles. I'm thinking she'd enjoy the early stuff like "She Loves You" or "I Want to Hold Your Hand".
Hello Jason, that's a great choice, I love that song, but although you can get quite a few of the Carpenters songs on You Tube, I believe that one is one of the most difficult to get past a copyright claim. It's a bit like trying to react to Hotel California, one or two people might manage it, but most won't. I can try loading up the song before I show it to Lilly and see if they'll have it, but I'm pretty sure it will get blocked.
We're still learning all the time, and in future I might disconnect from the internet while we're recording, I think the laptop was installing Windows updates and causing a few problems.

Love it the 60s is the best decade as always. The 50s to 80s era of music should always be worshipped forever!
When I was her age, I fell in love with song almost immediately. That introduction still gets me.
If I was stuck on a desert island with only The Monkees to listen to, I think I would do just fine.
Love the simplicity of The Monkeys

Grocer Jack Grocer Jack 😄😄 Yes I know it well Groover.
Ena Sharples grandson has come a long way from those early days in Coronation Street.
And he never forgot his roots. Good Manchester lad.
This was a year ago, I don't know how TH-cam discriminates comments, seems very unforgiving. This is a good song!
Great vid.

I get what you're saying David but that sort of stuff is almost impossible to put up on TH-cam it would be blocked instantly.
America's answer to the Beatles 😂

Yes all the other three are American. The only one alive still is Mickey Dolanz
this is Not the original hit version......the added drums in this ruins the song...imo.
Davy Jones, Manchester's finest.
