These look like they are cottontails. Cottontails are solitary. It's only European bunnies that live in packs and have a complicated system of tunnels. The mother will come back to her nest to feed the babies for about 5 minutes twice a day. Wild rabbits typically will live a year.
We are experiencing that at this moment. From What I can see, it looks like about 3-4 bunnies but probably more. My momma bunny covers her hole with fur and leaves. This one is using dirt. HOW DO THEY BREATHE? Also, when will they go off on their own or will they stick around and start their own families on the side of our house? Anyone know? They are chubby little buggers. Absolutely adorable!
Fun fact: baby bunnies emit no scent so as long as mom covers the nest well, they can't be detected by predators. Unfortunately, Mom often uses her own fur to keep them warm which does have a scent. The rest (as they say):is History. (No pun intended.)

Look at it from a Farmer"s or Landowners perspective, crop damage, damage to pasture land, young Trees damaged especially on Forestry commission land. There's millions of Rabbits in the Uk and many other areas so there is no worry of any type of population shortage.Farmer's don't look at a young litter of Rabbits and think how cute they are. However, as aFerreter one stops Ferreting perhaps in the month of March, although if the weather is mild the Rabbit will often breed all year round.

The reason is that they are prey animals so most will be taken by foxes , badgers , stoats and buzzards not forgetting the domestic cat .

Seems the dirt is perforated which will help the bunnies to breathe..
