When Sanchez finished his solo, I started clapping. And I ain't even there. (You gotta like how the piano player handled his business during Sanchez' solo.)
That was out of this world. A. Sanchez is...well, I just have no words...and that is by far, the best sounding ensemble of tubs and cymbals I have ever heard!!!

An extremely talented drummer. He's a role model for up and coming young drummers. Keep it up Antonio.
I'm not a competent musician but sometimes when Antonio's comping behind a solo, it seems he can predict their hits so quickly that it's basically like he's reading their minds.
It happens all the time when you improvise with people you're close with! I've had it happen to me a couple of times and it's a total trip.
This is what jazz artist are sort of trained to do. They learn to LISTEN to the way the other guy TALKS with his instrument. So the he can sort of enhancewhat the soloist is playing. This can happen pretty quickly with a group of jazz masters. The thing is action reaction, and boy isit beautiful to see it happen right before your eyes.

If I was a jazz musician I would fight the drummer trying to put intricate accents all over an improv, but Antonio would guess them all and twist my rythm
that is all true and Antonio is a monster. But we also should mention the fact that most of those hits are the accents of the clave they are playing in that specific section, so it's a little more achievable than it seems. The key is listening, speaking clearly through the instrument and knowing where you are in the form.

I think this is very similar to Brian Blade and the fellowship band at Chicago music Exchange (on TH-cam). That being said, Sanchez and Brian Blade are my favourites :)

Come on brotha....., you obviously are a new-comer to this genre.... really? There's so many iller drummers, even going back beyond the 60s. Perhaps you were born in the 90s saying that stuff, but you gotta read more. And most recently, you can look at Marcus Gilmore; the grandson of Roy Haynes..... stop playing with the "out of pocket" statements of "whos great in drumming, and this guy young....."

@@louismalle923 the greats of the past have to be acknowledged, but here we have 2024 and we have to look at the present. For me Antonio is top 10, unless you want to argue that 'your' Gilmore is better. Personally prefer Antonios style.

Super cool performance, but i wonder why Antonio uses this snare which sounds so choked up, it would be cooler if he has at least an extra snare with a more dirty 'timbale' sound, like he used more when he was 20-25

I’ve been a drummer for most of my life and while I might not have the full knowledge of the drumming universe, I still feel like I can confidently say that this planet has never heard a percussion artist quite like this. It’d be stupid to just say this is on another level; it means nothing to what is being done here. This is a whole different dimension.
I agree. I saw him play Birdman live and then do a ten-minute solo at the end. I was in heaven.
mm. better read Hawkins " a brief history of time" again. If his playing were on, or of or from another dimension, the extra dimensional musical qualities would be theoretically curled up so tight, like 1 billion billion times smaller than anything you can hear or see. So we wouldn't be able to perceive it. If you're gonna try to use higher math words or analogies be careful, some late starter math wonk might call you on it. his time, chops, ears, execution and concepts are good, but not a billion billion times gooder.
