NEW Firebox Nano stove, Owning an English Woodland, Primitive Firelighting, Wiltshire Man

  • Steve, a good friend has brought a small piece of woodland and invited me over for a tour of his woodland and an overnight bivi camp.
    I used my Snugpak Ionosphere bivi and also had the chance to test out a new stove.
    Steve from Folding Firebox kindly sent the stove to me as a gift,. Thankyou Steve:) The Folding Firebox Nano was supplied with a gas adapter. This stove is quite unique as it has the ability to adjust the flame allowing for a hot cooking flame or a slow more ambient yellow flame, there is also a flame spreader which Steve calls the "Ember plate". It's quite ingenious and really works well to distribute the heat evenly across the bottom of the pan.
    I hope you enjoy the video. Please subscribe to be informed of when I upload again in the future. Thanks:)

    Hi there, Just to say thank You, Your videos have inspired Me to get out and have a solo camping trip.and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loaded up My old Volvo estate with My camping gear and My mobility scooter, and went to the Savernake forest Wiltshire, England. I am leg disabled so I went to a campsite as I can have My car close by. I took My tepe style tent and I set up a large 4m square DD Tarp over the top. for cooking and heat I have a paraffin wick stove, and I have a twig burner as well that performed great at boiling up a cowboy coffee. Because it's England I had three days of glorious sunshine then a torrential downpour with thunder! But because I'm English I was prepared and took gear to cope with Four seasons weather. I had a ride through the ancient forest to see the giant trees and thousand Year old oaks. I had planned a relaxing time and the atmosphere and ambience of camping made Me feel wonderfully relaxed and refreshed, it was a lovely experience that I can thoroughly recomend. Thanks Again. Jahmahrah

      I am pleased you were able to get out even though you are disabled. The weather is the weather, here in Good England when it is hot it is hot, when it is Cold it is Cold and when it is wet it is Wet, but we still smile whatever happens!

    Always great to get "Chug" out of the garage and let it get out there in the dirt and the woods and the beautiful paths that leads to your destinations. That looks like a pretty nice piece of property that your friend Steve purchased. A very nice place to hang out for the day or to stay and camp overnight at. I hope that he gets plenty of opportunities to enjoy it. Thanks for letting us enjoy your outing along with you. I looked into a piece of woodland a few months ago here in west Cumbria - i couldnt believe how much money they wanted for it , it was ridiculous for a piece of land you can't do anything with and basically as it stands anyone can walk all around in there as i did , people walking dogs and really why would i want to fence it off - it was somewhat remote so you didnt get teens in there messing the place up as they do every other area around here , litter EVERYWHERE. You could camp there no more than a certain number of days in a row and so many days a year - i forget the numbers now - you could put a small shed/hut type structure there but like Steve said your basically a custodian of the land which may as well be the job of the council.

      @@WiltshireMan would it be possible for you to do a video on the complete setup for someone to go Moto camping for a long weekend using equipment that doesn’t cost much. I fancy doing it but when I look at (for example) tents, they range from £30 to £500. And that’s before I start looking at all the little things you might need. Is it possible to get everything you would need for say £150? 😁 if not how much. You know, stuff that’s not going to break after the first camp. 😁 I think I know the answer 😕 thanks.

    • @WiltshireMan
      @WiltshireMan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TAYM Haaha, yes I think you know the answer. Unless you can buy second hand then I would go for a budget of around £300 to £500 for all the camping gear. That should buy you gear that will last several years.
      You'll need a spacious 2 man tent to give you room for yourself and all the biker kit, 3 man is even better. Expect to pay £150 upwards. My moto tent is an MSR Elixir2 .A good quality 3 season sleeping bag will cost from £50 upwards. Some nice bags in Go outdoors. Sleeping mats, a decent stove etc. Backpackers have been known to spend hundreds maybe even thousands on ultra light kit, but moto camping allows us to carry slightly heavier and therefore cheaper gear.

    Enjoyed this video bro and what a lovely spot to chill with your good friend and on his property to boot. Has he plans on making some kind of small camp site or leave it natural. Safe travels

      Hi Ken - the plan is to leave it natural. It's classed as semi-ancient woodland so has had minimal interference. I'll just manage it sympathetically.

    Great as always Sandy, always looking forward to your next one, thinking back a few vids, was it you that took a book on a camp and recommended it? Not sure if it was one of yours, if it was, what was the book? I can’t for the life of me remember the title🤷‍♂️

    Wow! You have to get permission to cut wood down on your own land? It's not like that in the US. Not that I'm advocating for people to clear cut the land. I owned 47 acres with my brothers and we had a forester come out and mark the trees that would best be thinned and we got them taken down and sold them for a good amount of money. it didn't hurt the woods at all. It actually helped because it opened things up allowing more trees can grow in the future.

    • @Daytona2
      @Daytona2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's unusual, but it can be done by the seller using a Restrictive Covenant. The seller obviously wanted to stop future owners engaging in forestry and given the high price for timber at the moment, I can understand why.

    So based upon the opening monologue and brief initial chatter it seems like the Subjects of the Realm MAY purchase land, maintain it using your own hard earned income, pay the taxes on it, pay for the road improvements or court costs to gain access to your property, but your Government dictates how you may use “YOUR” property? I mean, do you need THEIR PERMISSION to cut down a tree whose diameter is 6cm or better? Is that an arbitrary decision or just Government overreach?This makes no sense from an outsiders prospective.

    • @WiltshireMan
      @WiltshireMan  ปีที่แล้ว

      a bit of over reach but there are some who would also cut down tree's that should be left alone. Over here in the crowded UK woodland is a precious resource

  • @nicholasmorrill4711
    @nicholasmorrill4711 ปีที่แล้ว

    It looks a bit characterless to me,all fences & no real old trees.
    Sorry to be critical but for my money real old rotten trees are where it's at & all I see is them being cut down everywhere & the sections strewn about like giant Lego bricks.
