  • How to build a working rudder for model ships that moves smoothly and without frictions?
As you will go through the video, you will learn how to build a rudder for a rc model ship using some spare walnut wood and a cooper sheet to make all the fitting for installing the rudder to the hull.
This technique is useful, regardless of the ship model you are building. An important step here is the copper soldering by using tin. It is not that hard; you just need to use a good soldering paste and tin solder a few key contact spots. The piece will be strong enough to resist the water forces.
An important part you'll see in the video is how to cut a strip from a 1,5mm copper sheet at minute 01:17.
Also, you can decide install the copper details before painting

Nice! A lot better the what Amati supplied in my kit. Ive taken the existing suppied rudder and used it as a basic pattern but have enlarged the surface area by over 50%. I've also thinned it down somewhat using 2 pieces of ~1mm plywood glued together with Titebond lll as the original was pretty clunky. I really like those hinges

Is the engine and rudder remote controlled? Where can you buy these for custom boats? Thanks

Hi I was wondering why you didn't profile the rudder?

The original rudder is too small for RC. It won’t turn in real world situation I guess

Hi all! Yes the original rudder is small. The risk of following the original profile was that the boat wouldn’t turn properly
