The latest update for Avorion keeps sectors you have ships (or stations) in loaded, even if you leave. This makes it easier to make money by building stations of your own. I haven't quite been able to figure out if it is worth it, though. For now, though, it seems to be working well enough. I'm making money.
Lorenzo Benito thank you for the info I was wondering if the updates fixed the load isue. any idea id or when we can keep track of everyrhing easyer ? I want to see how much a station is making compared to its upkeep
something i would love to see in avorion is the possibility to have cargoships that can "auto-trade" in your sector/s, and the ability to make the other stations like research/tech/weapon/fighters facilitys and soo on, so that you could actually create an empire and be lets say "self-sufficient" that would be reaaaaaally awesome! (sorry if my english is crap)
Thanks for the compliment, I appreciate it! I'm always wary about self-posting my channel as it isn't always interpreted well. After I get another video or two, and it is irrevocably shown I am not a "LPer", then I'll link.

I really like it so far, even though its not finished yet. Sandbox elements work really well already, and building ships is like yet another game in the game imo :) Be warned though that there is not much of survival (no fuel, food, oxygen etc.), its more arcadish, but you WILL loose your materials, modules and credits and respawn in home sector if your ship gets destroyed (so yeah, don´t ...). Otherwise really great game already, and it will get much better with few little updates (especially AI, stations and so on)
Blaauwe It isn't a survival game but it has great exploration and combat components. Until Avorion releases player factions it isn't the best coop option out there. Once they do it should be awesome for that.
Your videos are great man, full of good and useful information def gonna sub and watch more. I just got into the core and am working on my final ship to beat the last boss so im getting ready to start making stations and mines and such. I did the exact same thing I found a body armor trade route and milked it for a while. I didnt have a big cargo hold at the time so I only made 20m but thats been plenty for me to continue on. Hehe anyways thanks for the info bro! Cheers
I have not seen a method yet to do so. If I had to guess, it is either a level up (produce X items and you go from small to medium), or it has to do with how many crew / cargo space you have. It might also not be possible, stations & mines seem to be an "early access" feature that they will flesh out in the ensuing patches
Theres a mod on the forums that makes the game act like the sectors you have mines and stations in, act like they stayed open while you were out of sector. It does this by calculating how much you would have made if you were in the sector and once you return to the sector it adds that amount onto your earnings. I have yet to test it out as I haven't started my station building yet but its definitely something to look into if you're into that sort of thing...
People who have used it say it works well enough. The only problem though is it only computes production while you are absent. It doesn't compute NPC actions, like freighters buying and selling stuff.
neat ill have to install it then, at least that makes mines worth it. though maybe too worth it... couldn't you just put on like 10,000+ cargo space and come back 24 irl hours later to HAUGE amounts of material waiting to be sold?
Update for players playing in release; this is mostly up to date, however prices and unloaded stations have been changed, along with some stations/mines not exisitng/new ones existing.
As I understand it, adjacent sectors remain active so long as there is an active player. Adjacent being defined as any sector connected by gate or wormhole. There are some sectors with 4+ gates, so this should be a consideration when setting up shop.
Its important to note this for newbies. Scale your Founder ship to the max scale of 3 and do any Volume that you can afford or wish to start out with. This way your starting your station at the largest block size and can easily scale down from there. Much easier to build when your starting with large blocks than with tiny little micro sized blocks. You might have to add a more energy to get it moving though.
I hope they flash out well this game because at this stage has huge potential. They particulary need to focus on how the persistent universe work when you are not in the sector ( as for other games ) and the interaction between players. I have great expectation ;)
Likewise, when I first starting playing it I was surprised at its potential. So much so I made videos about it! I have great hope that the next few patches will drastically improve the gameplay experience.
are you saying that when you leave your mine sector it stops producing and the sector freezes? what is the sense of making a mine then? I made a mine and it got attacked by 10 ships so I warped out and when I camp back 60 minutes later the ships where no longer attacking and just hangin out, so Im not sure if the sector froze or not when I left, and if it does freeze there would be no sense in even making a fleet to guard it.
It produces for roughly 5 minutes after you leave. I'm guessing the opponents attacking you were the xsotan. The xsotan start neutral and then attack based upon your behavior. Leaving and reentering the sector will cause them to go from hostile to neutral, until they are triggered again and they start firing on you. Building a mine with the current patch is not that useful. I mention this near the end of the video. There is a mod called "Out of Sector Production" which will allow you to be absent and still have stuff created. I have used it and it does work. The reason for the fleet is twofold. In the past I have left ships behind in combat and come back. When I came back they were damaged. I think this can only occur for roughly 5 minutes after you leave but I'm not 100% sure. The second reason is you will be attacked consistently in your sector. Without a warship / fleet defending you, you will be forced to defend when you are trying to build, haul ore, haul crafted goods, etc. It can take a very long time to get anything done. And if you have zero warships, including your main ship, the enemy will arrive and gradually dismantle your installations.
im not sure what im doing wrong, i built a plant factory, in the current stage of the game, it automatically had it's docking stations on it (2) after that , i went to build menue, added storage and crew quaters, a shield, and a generator, etc. well now, it says in build mode, that 53 mechanics and 39 engeneers are required. and the base starts to get hull damage, very slowly, so i checked building options, and it said in yellow warnletters that no transportdrones are in it, to make it selfsustaning, so i went to a nearby sector, bought 10 of those cargo drones, added a Hanger to the base, added pilots to the base, set a base where my station can bring his needed ressources to it, now the drones automatically started travelingto bring required items. do i need to wait till they come back with cargo or what am i doing wrong? i added like over 72 mechanicks and 50 engeneers, but the base tells me, that it is loosing them, like 14.324234525 out of 53 mechanicks, when i check for crew, i can see that no crew members died or something, the base is holding them but does not show in build menue. still getting hull damage...
+BlackRainEntertain You do not need to wait for the cargo drones, they will automatically do their thing. As for your crew, do you have enough crew quarters? Enough leaders (Sergeants, Lieutenant, Generals, Ect.). Do you have a screen shot or video? I don't quite understand what you're saying. Have you been buying professionals, or just standard crewmen? Also, you can remove all parts needed for movement, such as thrusters, engines, gyros, inertial dampeners, and jump upgrades.
after restarting the game the "bugged" ammount of people number stoped telling me that i was loosing people lol the only thing i don't like about my station atm is, that i simply feel like im not making money at all with it. while my ship is getting bigger and bigger and the costs of the ship get more and more expansive, i hoped those stations would make my game selfsustaining but i think im too stupid to make my station write black numbers
The video comments on how the pirates constantly try to take over the sector. Are they still doing this after the latest update? Is it still not worth it to create these mines if they are gonna get wiped out anyways? Why shouldn't I just build in friendly territory? Or is building in enemy territory more lucrative? I'm still new to the game but would like to know if it's worth even spending 100s of hours in this game.
scontent.fslc1-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/16798003_10208370010039043_7742932528057127930_o.jpg?oh=882013fb88c54b263efe6baedc73aaec&oe=593609B6 There are limitations in the build editor, but they are not particularly insurmountable (that was just banging together a quick example) I am genuinely hoping that the 'procedural engine' is amenable to user manipulation and addition of certain bits, because those of us with an artistic bent would LOVE to add in tons of preset part configurations to help with beautifying things :)
I was thinking they could make something like X3, to have out of sector stimulation. But at the same time it kind work against the idea of procedural generated Galaxy. It would be a resource hog....... Plus I think they could need to rework with the procedural generated algorithm so the economic of the sectors could be more organic.......... This will be FREAKING HARD to do. So I think it is better to treat this game as some cheap pewpew with a really cool customize mechanization. Nothing more than that.
dude, wtf, share some money lol... so while on topic, I heard that stations and mines ect, only continue to work in online mode? is there a way to enable for offline aka single player? and or, is it best to just start a new game with an open server and just not tell anyone , or do servers get listed somewhere where public people can see? just got the game last week I can see myself playing for a very long time so don't want to conquer half the map to find out none of my factories are going to do anything while im at work lol.
As far as SP or MP, the station / mine will only stay active if a player (you or someone else) are in the sector. Otherwise within 5 minutes the sector is unloaded and the station / mine deactivate. There is a mod that attempts to simulate the production missed when you reenter the sector, but I have yet to use it. Also, as far as conquering the map, there are somewhere around 70000 sectors. It would take a long time :)
Ah a purpose for all my robotic crew....I have now about 10 different mines and i make like 10+ mil per hour....just fyi...and on my server all the Mines cost more to Found. OH and my server has modded files so i have another tab where the good are to buy/sell goods even when ur not there....
LOL all those flat thrusters you will have to change in 1.03 as the flat thrusters give almost no thrust, need block thrusters now. you have a lot of work to do on that ship m8.
No, the building system for ships is very basic on the surface but is incredibly complex if you want it to be. You can do a vast array of things with the fairly basic selection of blocks.
For anyone looking at it now - the sectors are now currently updated even if you leave them.
That's very helpful, thank you!

Weally weally great video man! I’ve got over 100 hrs in avorion and im just finding out how to build stations thanks to you!

just like X3 games...
Excellent video, man. Please, keep this updated if needed. Thank you so much.
WOW... I had no idea that the game had these features! SO HELPFUL! Thank you!
Thanks this vid really helped me! Finally someone experienced that actually have played for a while before posting a video. :)
Probably most useful Avorion videos around here. You DEFINITELY should go to official Avorion forum and link your videos to user guides page

Excellent Tutorial regarding stations; any idea how to increase the size of an existing factory beyond small?

isnt there that mod you can use that makes stations and stuff keep producing even when you're not there?
great video! Big help
You remind me of Issac Arthur - in all the good ways.
Great video
Thank you!
How to you get you get your "own" sector?
Place a station / mine in an unoccupied sector.
been watching a few of your videos and am curious what accent you have or if it's a speech impediment?
I'd guess rhotacism. Pronouncing R as W.
can you build a shipyard???
My goodness, you really enjoy utilitarian-looking ships.
I do! But there is a reason for it. It has to do with limitations of the build editor, which will be my next video.....
scontent.fslc1-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/16798003_10208370010039043_7742932528057127930_o.jpg?oh=882013fb88c54b263efe6baedc73aaec&oe=593609B6
There are limitations in the build editor, but they are not particularly insurmountable (that was just banging together a quick example)

Wait a minute. Did I see . . . round? Did I see ROUND?

LOL all those flat thrusters you will have to change in 1.03 as the flat thrusters give almost no thrust, need block thrusters now. you have a lot of work to do on that ship m8.
I know man, it's sad, but I'm glad the devs are making that change. It was ridiculous what you could do with those thrusters beforehand.
Sounds like to me the 'build' portion of the game needs a fuckton of work before it's any fun.
No, the building system for ships is very basic on the surface but is incredibly complex if you want it to be. You can do a vast array of things with the fairly basic selection of blocks.
