      Beautiful car , cringed when the window was broken , tough, as last chassis on body vehicle for the Chrysler Corporation . Should be straightforward restoration , the first clean out is always the hardest but most intriguing .

    I’m a locksmith for 40 year’s and trust me when I say drown it all in wd40. Lock cylinders, down the door on the mechanisms and through the door jams it’ll work I tell ya.

      It's the latch I have had many of them that sit get that way all you gotta do is spray the latch between the door and striker and they will open no breaking windows no ripping door panels off just simple spray with penetrating oil on the latches and work the door handle and it will open. This guy just loves to break stuff and rip stuff apart it seems

      It was quite a car in it's day...an outstanding example is worth around $25 to $30 k . Sadly To restore this car would take more than 2 or 3 times the value....

      @@CTmoog make sure motor is free then clean points then run a wire from positive terminal on battery to either the. Ballast resistor or to the coil then fill the float on carb don't just drop a half gallon of gas down the throat a little goes along way if you do that then there is a starter relay you can find that by. Following starter wires up from starter on driverside of course up on fire wall or fender well it's a box with a nut that is half inch in size has positive battery cable to it to and then a smaller wire with push on connector or a 5/16s bolt holding it on. Cross them with screw driver and it will turn motor over or you can jump the two wires. On starter too. Either way works. Check firing order before all else too. It is 18436572 driverside is 1357 passenger side is 2468 pull number one plug put your finger over. Plug hole. Tap motor over till finger gets blown. Off then go down to damper. And set it at TDC then run your wires a little tranny fluid down spark plug holes is a good thing a couple. Cap fulls goes a long way. On a motor that is not stuck. Or you can even stop some down carb not to much tho

      @@CTmoog I have a factory duel four barrel cast iron. Intake for a 413 with carbs still my father has the block he ran it in his red 65 belvederes two door hard top when he was a kid he had the duel fourbarrels set up on it he burned alot of hair and eye brows off learning how to tune that system. I think somebody. Put sugeer. In gas tank or something and he pulled that motor and still has it. Lol still has. His dart and Barr uda too but the old big body cars like yours are the classy good looking and strong looking cars. Shame there is not more people. Into them and saving them

      @@CTmoog let me no if it's ever forsale would get a good home over here will share room with a 69 dart with hemi and a formula s barracuda 383 fourspeed unrestored white with black stripe 5700 mile car and a 69 swinger 340 fourspeed and 69 road runner. Road runner is for sale needs floor sections and trunk center runs and drives has aluminum heads from mp 440 new. Motor new auto trans shift kit stall convertor and Dana rear with 4/10 posi seats dash head liner all new quarters were done years ago still good fenders perfect driver door has hole original vitamin c orange car and engine bay is done fresh in same color front end all new too originally 383 fourspeed air grabber car has lift off six pack hood now have complete air grabber hood available. For sale too

    I can't find a reason on starting another project when you have so many unfinished. Clean this up and put it aside to work in the future. You will never finish anything if doing this.

    So, I need to warn any & all of the 1960's Chrysler Imperial enthusiasts out there; if any of yous happen to remember this, you will probably NOT like being reminded of it. Regardless, it is by far one of the funniest car magazine articles I have ever read. Rewind to one of the earlier (1987ish) publications of "Mopar Action" magazine... So, the story is the Mopar Action guys wanted to recreate what the Hot Rod magazine guys had already done, which was to prove, by removing all the unnecessary weight- meaning most the parts & pieces of a full size 70's Cadillac (interior, glass, roof, body panels, etc, anything that wasn't completely necessary to keep it running & driving), that "lighter equals faster". The end result was basically a Caddy frame, with one seat, 4 wheels & the drivetrain that actually ran the quarter mile in the mid 12s at something like 110mph! Before the "weight reduction" the old Caddy ran a best of maybe 16 or 17 seconds at just under 90 mph... They no doubt proved their point. Now back to Mopar Action... They did the same thing, except their victim was a super clean, one owner, original paint 4 door 1964 Chrysler Imperial with around 38000 original miles on the factory 413 4bbl/auto drivetrain. This article proved one thing for sure, that those 1960's Imperials were one of thee most well built, strongest built & heaviest vehicles ever made in the USA.
    "Overengineered" & overbuilt are the words that come to mind. These guys got their collective asses kicked in their hilarious attempt to dismantle this massive car; they had one a hell of a time even getting the doors off, even with all the hinge bolts removed! Even by them jumping up & down on the tops of the doors, they still would not budge! I honestly don't remember how they finally succeeded in removing the doors, but I do remember that the entire car fought them tooth & claw for every nut, bolt, screw, & fastener. The bumpers & front fenders were another time consuming nightmare as well for these guys. But by far the funniest part of all was their totally insane & completely unsafe "removal" of the enormous back half of the Imperial's body; they somehow fastened one end of a heavy duty tow chain to the car (all body mount bolts either unbolted or torched off at this point); the other end of the chain they attached to a large parked semitruck trailer(!), then proceeded to accelerate forward in the hope that that would work for removing the remainder of the body. They finally succeeded, after like the fourth or fifth run at it, & that is when that huge chunk of the old Imperial violently ripped loose with tremendous force, sending it 20 feet straight up in the air where it came to rest, upside down, directly in front of the tractor trailer! That brave (or really stupid) guy behind the wheel thought he was going to die, for sure, & I think he came pretty close anyway... Apparently there is a video that exists of this poor Imperial's demise at the hands of those crazy Mopar Action staff members at that time (note: I've been reading MA for many years & I firmly believe that all of them are just little bit nuts; in fact I think that insanity has been a required job skill for the potential hiring of any future employees at MA, since their beginning... Anyone who has ever read Mopar Action magazine will know exactly what I mean... So, long story short, that old 1964 Chrysler Imperial in bone stock form with like 38000 miles on that 413 4bbl ran somewhere near the same ET as the HR Caddy did- a 16 or 17 blistering seconds at under 90 mph... & after the drastic weight reduction, the remains of that old Imperial ran a low 12 second quarter at close to 115!! , & that's with traction a complete joke off the line, tires smoking for a good third of the track before they finally hooked up! If anyone out there has or is able to find a copy of this article or better yet, have a copy of the actual video, it's really worth checking out, at least once, if only for the purely stupid entertainment value, unless you really do love those 1960's Chrysler Imperials. This one was lovingly sacrificed in the name of "science" & that never ending quest for more speed. I mean, it could have been destroyed in some random demolition derby instead (look at the bright side...). Y'all can please thank, (or blame) the MA magazine staff, not me. I like full size cars; cuz I own several of different makes. No old Imperials though. At least not yet...

      WOW! I read that article,I thought is was Hot Rod magazine.But I remember them chaining the rear end to a semi trailer and 5 attempts to remove the rear 1/4 was crazy.They ran out of ether cutting that rolling wrecking ball apart to prove 1 ton off a 5500 lb car will make it faster and lower the e/t.Thanks for the reminder.That brought back memories! In the Jim Carrey movie 'Unfortunate Events",they had a '60 Imperial Limo that had door lock issues too.

    I have a 1959 Imperial it looks like a new car compared to that 65 and it has been parked for 45 years but inside . Good luck have fun and maybe you should wear a mask til you get the thing clean. I got my car in October 2020 and its running and driving I'm so lucky to get such a nice car again have fun and be safe.

    Imperial was the best engineered and built Luxury cars in the 60’s. Massively overbuilt cars. The LeBaron was the most expensive Imperial - relatively few built. Unfortunately, the low market value of these cars makes restoration make no sense economically- especially one so deteriorated. But if you are going to try to bring it back, you may want to get the shop manual, to reduce damage in disassembly that will then cost you money to fix. Thanks for the video.

    Love the old Imperials. Back in the 70's in HS, my best friend's dad, a farmer/lawyer, had a pole barn with 23 '62/'63 Imperials. Some were "Imperials" others were the Lebaron, just a trim level as I recall. They had about 4 good drivers, and MAN those were great cars. Luxurious. He also had a limo he bought from the Eastman (Kodak) estate. It was done by Ghia in Italy. It had thick bullet proof, (resistant) glass and a half inch of some kind of bondo looking putty over the body. I was told this was also bullet armor. No idea. It was a big catholic family, and all the kids went to prom in that car, with dad dressed as chauffeur. I bet they made a mint off those when the old man passed. As for this one...you saved it. Now the only question is whether it is economically worthwhile to restore meaningfully. Due to rarity, those small dash parts, etc, can get pricey even if available. It may wind up being a donor car, which is STILL better than letting it rot. Good luck, looking forward to seeing next vid.

      @@CTmoog The kids sold em off after his death. My nephew is a state trooper, and he was called out to check vin numbers after he passed. He said the old man had stsrted collecting 68 or 69 Cougers too. Had about 14 of those. Seems like the guy knew what to buy, (low production), and when, (right before they became junk).

      Holly crap your not kidding !!! I just started watching with this new car and I'm a nice guy even offered them parts for free but only if they read. What. I wrote about how to start that car cuase they have. No clue and even I had to go off and send a message on how redicouless what they have done so far is making me stupid by the minute I told them pry just a little bit on the door and it will open it's not latched !!!!! They must have pulled those handles and door lock hundreds of times. They made almost a hole show on just that and how can they be that stupid !!!! When you pull both handles and lock time it just binds the mechanisms. Up !!!!!! And of course they have. No idea that if that was acftualy the issue all you have to do it pop door handles back into closed position nice and hard and push hard on lock button into lock and then pull it hard back to unlock and it let's go !!!!!

      Unlike ‘61+ suicide door Lincoln’s, Imperials never became popular (valuable) collector cars (even though both were designed by the same guy). So the market values are low and you’d never get the $50k (or more) back needed to do a full restoration of a LeBaron unfortunately. That’s the reason...

    Next time you have to break a window cover it in duct tape, sticks the pieces together, makes a lot less mess to clean up.

      @@jd46800 it's truly a shame I have a very hard time seeing these cars go away cuase they ended up in wrong hands. After surviving for years in a mud puddle or back yard I have saved some cars that shouldn't have been and saved cars that value wise were far not worth saving but I love them and I do almost everything myself and have great connections. For parts cuase I'm the guy that if I have something. You need and I see people hitting you. Over the head for skemthing not worth anywhere what they want if I have it I give it away especialy it I don't need it and if I don't have much into it too. I told that guy to get to important shit not playing with garbage. In inside of csr I layed out what to do to get it running very easily. And if I seen that he listened to what I said I would send him the window he broke for nothjng. And a ignition with key for that car hoping that pushes him in right direction and then maybe somebody will take the car off his hands

    CT--- It's called a "Slim Jim" you can make one from an old metal ruler. Grind a slot about an inch up on it's left side, a quarter inch wide or so just enough to catch the reach rod, have it angle down at about a 5:00 angle about a third of the way in.
    Or a coat hanger, untwisted with a small hook shape at the end. Insert either of them between the glass & the door's weather stripping grab the reach rod & pull up.
    Presto-Mungo the door will unlock quicky.
    Don't get caught with that Slim Jim in your Daily when pulled over though!!! lol LOL

      Trim pieces would be harder to fine... but this Imperial has the 413 V-8 and Torqueflite shared with other Mopars.

    Excellent Video CT :) going take lot hard hours and time get that car fix up plus money so say! Also take step by step and be driveable in future! Hopefully find a another car be donated parts to fix up to and would see if can start engine also if transmission okay to included ! If worth fix up and be nice car to drive too!

    I can't tell you I've been given the job many times of getting a door open that's stuck. And when you're anticipating having to destroy a door panel and spend multiple hours getting it apart and then it opens up like that. That's the time to celebrate.

    I have never seen a window get broken just to get in, didn't you try a slim Jim, I know its electric locks but still has a carry over bar, and guys That motor is not all that, The crank shaft needs to enlarge rear oilers ports , on race track had a habit to Grenade, not enough oil getting to rear bearings, But fast motor, 345 hp I think the one you have

    The power lock actuator is what actually locks and unlocks the doors. Update: After some thought. I'm not totally correct. In the earlier models. The lock knob is connected to the lock mech. So. WD40 and dont give up!

    As always, CT has no fear of the beast! I think I would squirt a ton of WD40 down the space between the latch side of the door and the post it latches to in the door frame. Usually, that is a big rust spot. You also might want to squirt it down the window sill opening with the idea of getting to the door latch mechanism. I think that is where your stuck parts will reside! Never did a MOPAR, but lots of GM, Ford and Studebakers. They all had about the same basic design.

    Man... quite the road ahead with that one, but she was loaded and a beauty when new. The silver button in the glove box should open the trunk with the key on, unless it's vacuum actuated, if so, add vacuum to the switch and see if it works. That mechanism may still be ok back there. Love how when you dropped the door lock knob to the ground... and it was actually made of metal... haven't seen that for like... decades.

    I think that the interior would especially be a lot of work but I think it'll be worth restoring because you just don't see them that often. I used to own a 1966 Imperial when I was 18 but it just needed far more attention than I was able to give it so I wound up selling it. Love those cars!

    I've been looking for a 66 imperial I'd like to have one because it's the last year of the design and the first year of the 440 and the last year with the full chassis..it's odd it's a column shit I thought it only came out in 66 but your 65 has it. Them ol cars are super hard to find I'd like to have that one it's solid car. Very good video buddy 👍 I'm watching it on my television and I have to comment on my phone

      1964 was the last year for the push button trans. 65 and up had the column shift. 65 was the last year using the 413. 1966 was the switch to 440 in all Imperials.

    That window smash resembles what I had to do, I licked my keys in my truck, up in the boonies 35 miles from town, wallet keys sitting in view, either I walk/ hitchhike home, & back, for spare keys, & hope truck doesn't get cleaned out & torched, or, a 20 lb rock thru passenger window, then a $90 window from a junkyard later that week. I chose the rock .

    I love theses old 60's cars hope she runs and drives it even had a Superhero in it ! Power antenna works??!! I have an 86 Coupe Cadillac Deville that power antenna bit the dust many years ago replacement working fine past 20 years.

      They ARE the best of the best for derbying.The '57-66 are THE toughest cars.Then the '67-68's are very tough the front ends are nicknamed" Hammer heads",for a good damn reason.I can't blame the derby guys for doing it.They aren't getting mint cars,most are rust buckets pulled out of fields(like this one)!Nobody cared about,now going out in a blaze of glory.Some won time after time.I seen a'66 win 4 finals and still ran 3 more times before they retired it.The '71-76 full size GM clam shell wagons are very tough-but they made millions of them compared to the 130k Imperials in 10 years,'57-'66's.

    I've got a 66 imperial I'm restoring myself. While mine runs and drives, the accessory power is losing voltage an I cant figure it out. Measure with a meter your get 11.7, hit the smoker's window switch and ot drops to 8.3 and slopes downwards.
    Love to see how you get it working, keep the Tanks on the road

      Too much resistance some where! Start looking at voltage drops between connections. Most problematic would be corroded connections. Sometimes, you can fix it by squirting cleaner into the connectors and plugging and unplugging or simply wiggling them. Start with those near the battery. On accessory power, there is at least one relay in the circuit, as the ignition switch can't possibly carry that much current. Look for the relay, check the connections there, and of course, wiggle the fuses and dose with contact cleaner.

    Damn! This car has a system of locks, windows, suitcase, antenna probably of the pneumatic or electric type. They finally managed to open the front doors and unfortunately they had to break a glass to get in...But this project will be very interesting to follow!
