They were buried by their record label. Today they would be 100x more popular because of “diversity”. Back then it wasn’t… it arguably hurt them. Also the only reason people know Cannibal Corpse is because of Ace Venture and the over the top lyrics and artwork. Nobody ever talks about their music
I was a bit anxious without Frank, but I must say Ricky nails it. And all those riffs variety, incredible solo, all those ambiances... Suffo on the top of the world!
It always grants a huge pleasure when the band who doesn't already need to prove anything to anyone and can maintain its career by re-releasing remasters and live boxes actually doesn't give a shit and makes something so powerful and stylistically precise. Immeasurable respect guys!!!

Ricky sounds amazing, deep and gravelly like Frank back in the day. He definitely has his own flair but this is close enough to the original aesthetic to sound like authentic Suffocation brutality. The production is kicking my ass too. This is shaping up to be a good year along with some new Cannibal Corpse material…

Glad to see the homies reclaiming their throne as the overlords of brutality. Ricky silenced all critics once and for all. His growls are vicious and deafening. And he is a seasoned veteran way before Suffo. Eric is a f'n machine!! He has become an elite drummer with speed, fills, technicality and groove. If you have seen him live you know whats up. Derek Boyer has taken bass playing to a level few if any have ever been to. His style and sound makes something heavy become CRUSHING. A master at his craft. Plus who doesn't love that insane weapon of a bass he is playing. Charlie is a perfect compliment to Hobbs. His solos and riffs are insane and in almost ANY other band he would be the undisputed lead. And speaking of HOBBS... the living legend. the madman. A dude who pretty much created an entire genre of death metal... Hobbs is on straight GOD MODE on this song and album. In my opinion he remains unmatched and has no peers. People will comment with names of dudes that can noodle around and play super fast or play wild solos but none are Hobbs. His style is his and his alone. He invented this. He continues to rewrite the rules. this record harkens back to the days where Suffocation were giants. Each album heavier than the next. Riffs that could crack mountains. Well, this is the next step in the evolution of brutality, slam, riffs and solos that sound like they were conjured from dark and evil worlds. HAIL SUFFO!!! Showing the world once again why our little island in NY has repeatedly given the world some of the heaviest goddamn bands in the history of the genre. And none more devastating that the OG's SUFFOCATION!!! **Quick note for those missing Mullen (but all of you still giving Ricky the props he deserves is awesome!) We all love Frank Mullen. Whats not to love? But Frank gave most of his life to death metal and it was time to move on with his awesome wife and career. This "hand chop" is for you my dude!!**

To me, seeing them live is when I really understood what they were all about. I was floored and it was easily one of the best concerts of the past few years for me. Ricky's voice is unreal, on the record as well as live, and the band just has that kind of energy that drives a crowd completely mad. The new record is the best of the year so far for me, no matter what I'm doing while listening I have to stop, bang my head and punch the air.
Definitely a skilled guy but Frank Mullen Vocals are just iconic and OG. Suffocation is defnitely gonna feel like missing something without that characteristic voice for sure. But this is solid nonetheless

As with hearing any new song from any band, I had to listen to this several times to take it all in. Now that i have done that, this is definitely bad ass!!!! Not that it wasnt on the 1st listen, it just got better and better with each additional listen.... Being human, and a father, I understand that, well, getting older sucks, and that sometimes life takes us all in different directions....what Im getting at is Frank's departure from Suffocation. He will be missed like all other past members. Terrance is now the only original member that remains to keep the brutality going.....and what an awesome job he is doing with the newer members!!! Stay Metal!!!!

I'll always wish that Suffocation would include more of the thrashy riffs they had on their early album. I'm guessing Doug wrote most of them, since they were way less frequent starting in Souls to Deny and are now basically totally gone.
