Enjoyed the video ! Sending best wishes to Cooper, such a sweetheart. After watching I wanted to give just a few tips on the color pencil. Prismacolor is wax based and has a reputation for breaking when sharpening also that brand has less lightfast colors but more variety. I use Polychromos which is oil based with great lightfastness. I find laying down color in small circular motions lightly lends itself to layering, blending and creating your own colors. If you go up and down hard you may get a sheen also you can’t take on more color on top. There’s also Zest It which I use to blend also allowing for more layers to be added on top.
Oh ho, you NEEDED to try the Prismacolour pencils for us! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Olympic level self-enabling there Girl! Do whatcha gotta do! 😂 And now you make me want to go and buy the Creatacolour blue pencil you used. 🥴

Sandi, that Faber Castell Albrecht Durer green pencil is a watercolour pencil 😊
I use Prismacolors all the time. Great for layering and blending. Start with your darker color and use lighter colors to blend on top. They also layer on top of flat and shiny acrylics nicely ... I love the metalic gold Prismacolor for a bit of fun in paintings.

Just for info…the Faber Castell pencil you got is a watercolor pencil…it can be used dry or you can wet it like watercolor. ( Faber Castel colored pencils and watercolor pencil all come in the same colors to match up.) the watercolor pencils have a paintbrush on them and are hexagon …the normal colored pencil are round). Enjoy all your goodies!

Love those cactus paintings 😍 They’re so vibrant.
I bought one pack of those little plastic holders. I have full sets of beautiful pencils. But I put them in pencil books. On the shelf. I thought it would be a great way to organize them. But they are put away. I never use them. So I’m wondering if I organize them the way you do I’d be more apt to use them. Maybe they’d be easier to find. All the reds in one pouch. I’ve got a big huge set of prismas… people who do colored pencil art love them but there have been issues with them, breaking when sharpened, uncentered… I made myself an art cart so I can sit in my easy chair and do something. You could sharpen that big pencil with a utility knife. Shave it off then sand paper it. I just did all my graphite pencils like that. They have these big old long leads sticking out 😂

Imma bona fide pencil junkie...and many Wal-Mart clear cosmetic bags fully loaded rather than segregated by color or type of tools. cycling thru one or two weekly keeps me fresh and aware of what is drying out.

I've been meaning to do a swatch of all my yellows etc and still haven't got around to it. It helps that I have them in a see-thru stepped pencil holder on my desk by colour. It's obviously not portable but I hate searching for things. I have a 40 set of Pablo pencils in a portable pencil case (book-like) that I can pop in my bag, though.

The Kum sharpener is the best, once you try those, you can't go back. I actually have the more expensive only metal version ("the masterpiece" XD)
Many hugs for Copper, I live with a very old cat, and it can be a bit of rollercoaster. I thought she was going to die a few times, but apparently she's got strong will to live so far.

If it’s any consolation at all, I just checked my Blick cart and I have 14 colored pencils + 3 Stabilo Woody’s waiting for me to hit the “go” button! I keep hesitating because - SO MANY PENCILS! But then I think… there are so many worse things I could be spending my money on 😂

Cutting….I slip around a lot too sometimes when using craft knives….maybe a blade replacement or sharpening …just my 2 cents. Actually, I find guillotine cutters the best for thicker materials. But we all have our preferences. 👍
I loved seeing all your colour pencil/neocolor drawings!
I have given all my Prismacolors away. (Yes a bit extreme,) there was the always breaking issue, but most importantly many of the colours I liked were not lightfast. This isn't an issue for colouring if everything stays in a book, but working professionally I didn't want to risk a work I make being substandard due to my choice of mater. We replaced them with Luminance which have much better ligtfastness ratings. I have also gone through my Neocolor II s and have 3 that have no lightfastness at all!😭.

I love sharing drawings with my daughter (who is almost 7) and her friends. Just last week one of them gave me such a cheerful picture that I had to hang it on the wall of my studio (which has pretty much been wallpapered with kids’ art). I am always inspired by their creative abandon while drawing - they have no fears, no doubts, just fun and I find myself trying to channel that energy every time I sit down to create.

They have a very soft lead. Love the new artwork inspired by that little first grade artist. Beautiful! See you when you get back. I will miss you. ❤

Are you aware that your new Faber castell green pencil is a watercolour pencil? So you can get 2 types of texture with it.
If you haven't tried them yet try the Stabilo aquacolour they are very different from watercolors and colour pencils. They are really creamy like oil pastels and when you spread them with water the colours stay bright. They give a nice grungy effect. Sorry to tempt you of your ban but they are so different from other pencils and are awesome for mixed media. I rub them down the side of pages and collage elements and then smudge with water to look really grungy.
That thick pencil looks awesome I might have to try them.

Hi Sandi,My heart goes out to you re Cooper,it is so heartbreaking when it comes to the end of an old friends life,We lost our little Westy terrier,a few years ago,and we cried buckets,we didn’t replace her as she would of been a hard act to follow.Thankfully you have lots of footage of cooper,and I can see the deep love he has for you in those.I loved your little friends cacti painting,and how you were inspired.I love children’s art,it is so free and uninhibited,they can teach us a lot,I have kept all my two children’s artwork,I think they have taught me so much.Love and prayers going out to you Sandi,enjoy your week off xx🤗

Aw its just the worse when doggies get old 😭 we put down my family dog 2,5 years ago, we got him when I was 12 and he was just short of his 16th birthday, but it was def his time, any longer would have been miserable for him and would only have been for our own egos to keep him around! I think about him everyday and cant wait to adopt a new pupper in September so I can get another companion to make memories with again 🐶❤️ sending all 3 of you lots of love ☀️❤️

Aw Coop : ( Sandi when you get over your ban Caran D'Ache watercolour pencils are gorgeous. And since your cp stash is growing a pencil case with multiple slots and carry handle will be handy. I treated myself to a lovely one with owl's and trees as the design.
Love your sketch book drawings, Cactus paintings...just love it all. Your style of art speaks to me. I would be interested in finding out how you pack your supplies when you go camping or for travel. I share that in a couple of videos. In my last art haul I also share how I pack my new bag to go out painting.
I believe the prismacolor pencils are not as light fast as the luminance or polychromous pencils. I’m not certain. Just a recollection of in potential information. But that might explain why some artists snub them.
Polychromous are oil based (I think) and prismacolor are wax based. You probably know this.
If you like the thick pencil, the Fabre- Castell watercolour were done in a thick barrel. Also Lyra do a nice thick pencil. It’s a kids brand but lots of fun in my art journal. I also enjoy stockman beeswax block crayons when I’m working with kids and doing art.

Hi Sandy. I painted and drew for thr first time in forever and wanted to have you on in as I did so. It felt like a lovely warm homecoming, but I was so shocked to hear about Cooper. I'm so sorry and I will keep him and you all in my thoughts. The painting exchange you did with your little friend was so sweet. And finally, I remember that video when you got the pencil sharpener with the two holes! Thanks to you I learned how to use my own two holed sharpener :)

Sandi, you need to fix your website. I just went there and it doesn't seem to be working very well. The images weren't loading properly (they seldom showed up in frame) and no information showed up about them. Hard to sell anything that way 😕.

Children's paintings can be so amazing. My son wanted to be Rembrandt and he took a chair as an ezel, told his sister to be his model "you stand very still now" and painted her and the dog. Then he took two of my plants and painted those. We have them hanging framed above the coach in the living room. Can't think of any art that would be better to hang there 😄
I think your knife skills are great by the way, I kept thinking only once in the ruler, that's amazing. I'd of done that at least 5 times. 😂 I don't think bans work, maybe say to yourself be happy with what I've got but if I see a beautiful colour it's OK. Bans make us feel guilty, but to what end? Your colour pencil newness and excitement hasn't worn off yet. I say enjoy it, there is so much to discover. It will wear off and then you'll have all these wonderful pencils to work with. 💖 Happy camping and hugs for Cooper.

I love art made by children! They are some of my favorite artists. There work inspires me also. Hope coopy will be ok. Our pets are an extension of our family. I still cry every time I think about my wonderful cat who past a few years ago, ROCCO BELLA GATTO (Rocco beautiful cat in italian). He was the worlds BEST cat hands down.

I don't know where your pencil journey has taken you in the last year or so, but I think you would love the Albrecht Durer Magnus pencils. Big and chunky like the Cretacolor, but also water soluble.
I also have bans, but immediately buy more art supplies!! I love Prisma color.
I love your videos and the inspiration I get from watching you paint in your studio.
About the young girl who painted a picture for you .
It would have been better for you to tell her how inspired you were by her art and then paint something different, a desert scene but not "one up" her.
She may feel that you are trying to tell her that her painting was not good enough because you "re-did" it so to speak.
Children are sensitive.

You are so funny putting wax paper on them. You must know colored pencils won't move because they are not like pastels or pencils. You can spray them with fixative if you are that anxious about it but really there is no need.
