    I can’t say it enough what an inspiration your are to me. Since I was very young I had the pressure that everything that I sketched or painted had to be good. That caused me to stop for many years, however I am now trying to be more relaxed and just enjoy the process. Thank you.😊

    I paint very tightly, art school tried to make me loosen up but after school I realised I was an adult and could paint how I liked and I'm quiet successful with my style BUT I have a friend who has a gallery and every year she holds a competition and it always has a theme, this is my playtime, I break all my own rules with colour, texture and size. She laughs everytime I bring in my pieces because they keep getting bigger and bolder, she's now put a size limit to stop me growing. I really love the theme restriction which allows me to play but with a direction or jumping off point. This year was just "GREEN" What was I supposed to do with that, hardest and most fun ever. Glad I'm not the only one that plays.🥰

    • @sandihester

      That’s a fun theme - Green!!! Love how she does that!

    I love it when you go on and on about colour! It's like your in my head reading my thoughts 😄 I recently bought some derwent drawing pencils to complete my set and all I did the first two days was go, oh my this colour is beautiful, oh my, wauw look at this combination etcetc. I used distress ink, stencils and my oil pastels today on one page. So fun! Btw, I drool everytime I see your wooden trays with all the wonderful supplies. Heavenly..

    Can we get like a 2 hour video of you just flipping through all of your sketchbooks? Haha. 😆 Your work has always been captivating, but lately it's been next level. I just want to jump into them and discover all the marks and colors. See what you see. Live in those little house. Walk on those docks. The fact that you're able to take these "ordinary" scenes and turn them into these mini wonderlands blows my mind. 🤯

You remind me that art isn’t about the end result, but the journey itself 💕 I need that reminder a lot because I’ve been a full time artist for quite a while now, and we can get stuck in our heads fixate on what peoples opinions “will be.” Who cares ?!? Right !
    Well most of us do lol.
    Especially when we have come from a family that mean we’ll but are critical, and have this idea of what art can look like. I really appreciated your video on how to take criticism, you gave some really great perspective and I love that !

    This is a really dumb question, probably. At minute 20:36, how did you achieve the texture in the paint? Is it heavy bodypaint, or did you embed some tissue in the paint?

    I love your videos so much Sandi, and I listen to them on repeat when I'm working in my studio bc they are so relaxing....I hope you don't take this offensively, but I found the editing of this video to be really disorienting and unrelaxing with the way it switches between your testing of the artgrafs and flipping through your sketchbook. I find the videos where you do one full section at a time relaxing and enjoyable like you're talking with a friend, but this made me feel anxious or like I'm flipping back and forth between TV channels. Again, love your videos so please don't be upset by this but I did want to give my opinion on this because it feels a lot different from your previous videos ❤

    Its amazing how you use oíl pastels. I would like to know how not to be so judgemental or how not to be so negativo about my own work, how do you deal with the dissatisfaction that sometimes comes when you experiment and do something...

Although, every time you turn a page and only show us part of the page and go back, I'm yelling at you to show me!!! LOL. Can't wait to see more from you. My biggest inspiration

    I have a general question not in response to your work, which you know I love, but just in general. When did the concept of "mark making" start to be a thing?

    • @sandihester
      @sandihester  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t know. Do you mean a thing with me or just in general? I think some of us enjoy the actual mark making and shapes. That’s how we “see” and enjoy expressing ourselves. And as we grow as artist’s we see how important the marks are in art

    • @MSKCCooke
      @MSKCCooke 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I meant in general as a term, but I love how you have described it here. It seams to have become a term used by many TH-cam artists. FYI, I just returned home from a visit to The Art Institute of Chicago (blessed to live only 18 miles west of there) to see the Cezanne exhibit. I don't know for sure, but feel fairly confident that your work has been influenced by his. I have to go back again! It is only here until September!
