I bought this rack because of your two reviews. I need it to tilt back and will simply make a short stick or a pole with a Y up top to lean and hold the bike as needed.
I have the Mate R. I actually haven't had two bikes on it yet. If you have one bike on there you could tilt it like you did obviously, but with two I think there's two much going on and too much to hang onto, etc. Love the rack though. A little confusing to assemble, but works awesome.
Scott, how has the lock been holding up? There are some concerning reviews on Amazon about rust and others where the lock has fallen off. I just assembled the mate r, and I have to say it's very solid. I just don't care for the hitch pin that came with the bike rack.
I have been using this on the MATE and SOLE with no issues. I do have very little surface rust on the pin and the rubber cap has disconnected from the lock but it still stays on there. I have zero worries about this locking pin. I do keep my racks and locking pin in my garage but it has been subjected to the elements such as rain.
Thanks for the review update Scott. Two questions: 1. A reviewer on another site mentioned that the ratcheting straps on the wheels came loose on him while driving and he needs to use Velcro straps as a reinforcement. Have you ever had issues with the ratcheting straps coming loose in transit? 2. Two other reviewers mentioned that when they used the bike rack in the rain, the rack began rusting in a week. Have you experience any rust issues? Thanks for your service from a former C130 driver also in IL!
1. In my original review of this rack, I showed that if you put the ractchet straps in the wrong way they come loose. I can only assume that he did that because I have used this rack about 30 times without an issue. No velcro straps needed. 2. I think mine does have a couple small surface rust spots. When the rack gets moved around and banged on, if the paint or protective film they have on the rack comes off, it will start to rust in areas. It has not rusted any more than my Hollywood rack so I think the amount of rust is normal. On mine, its just surface rust and small spots. Thanks for your service! I might have jumped out of your plane once!
Scott, i love all your detailed reviews. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge with us. This rack looks great. Do you know if the Velotric Packer 1 will fit on this rack? I am concerned about the length. Thanks in advance!
Question for you. I just installed this and got the Max Haul lock (Thank you!). I notice that the upright bar that holds the frame wobbles quite a bit. Any recommendation for handling this? (To note, I just installed the rack and haven't driven with it yet, so maybe it's fine?)
I don't know. I show the distance from the hitch to the ramp. I believe it was 18." You now measure the back of your van to see how far the tire sticks out.
While I like the rack, I have a problem with the support rod. I inserted it with the semicircle plates on both side of the rod but I was unable to tighten it so that it does not move. It's not tight and will not stand up on it's own.
mine are loose as well. I feel its suppose to be that way and they need to drop down when not in use. Maybe I am misunderstanding but you need the support rods to not be fixed in the up position.
@@scotthardesty Not yet, just doing pre-research for whenever I get a rack. I'm just wondering about the efficacy compared to a u bolt hitch stabilizer. Thanks Scott!

Scott, I have a similar rack/hitch set-up. Thanks for locating a locking bolt. Your reviews and expertise are much appreciated.
Glad to help! I hope it works on your rack as well!
Took your advice and got the MaxxHaul hitch pin. Thank you, thank you !! It worked perfect.
Great to hear!
I bought this rack because of your two reviews. I need it to tilt back and will simply make a short stick or a pole with a Y up top to lean and hold the bike as needed.
I think I showed you how I do it. I hadn't thought about a pole, that could be a nice solution.
Thanks for all your videos. Bought the lock and the rack and Young Electric even threw in the ramp for free.
I like the fact that all their racks now come with the ramp. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the information , just what I was looking for secure the rack and my bike.
Glad I could help

Yes. I actually put the Packer 1 on the rack in my initial review. th-cam.com/video/H-BCvRgnOAA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=CKLCNsDvFG5m15OC

Mine moves as well. It will be find once everything is locked down.
Thanks for the video - I plan on buying this asap. Are those straps strong? what is the material?
The straps seem awfully strong to me. This is the #1 rack that I use and I believe they are a plastic material but very flexible.
Thanks for info, would you recommend not leaving attached to the car for a long time for rust issues I live near the beach and worried about that
Hmmmmm... If you can use bike grease to lube it up it might be okay. FYI, I'm just guessing here but it seems logical to me.
@@scotthardesty thanks for the tip
What mud guard is that? I want to get one for my Ramblas. The color seems to match pretty well
It matches real well with the bike. Here you go. amzn.to/4ag4F8b
Question will this fit with a spare tire on the back of a van?
I don't know. I show the distance from the hitch to the ramp. I believe it was 18." You now measure the back of your van to see how far the tire sticks out.
@scotthardesty thx

I am interested in this single bike rack. Will it accommodate a Lectric xp 3.0 e bike?
It will! Here is my full review on it and I put multiple different bikes on it. th-cam.com/video/H-BCvRgnOAA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=SRp5B49_tDNGE3an
Any idea how much this rack weighs? I cant find it on the website. My vertical tongue limit is not very high so i need to manage the weight.
I think it weights about 35-40lbs.
Hey Scott, what's your opinion on anti-wobble hitch pins?
I like them. They seem to work and I have never had an issue with them. Have you?

@@jimhitchcock5837 cant you use both?
Two bike rack folds down tilts
They do need to come out with one that does that. They have a nice two bike model but it doesn't tilt down.
Yes I got one
Lean the bike back or buy a 4Runner with a rear window that rolls down 😊
As you saw, I lean the bike back. My RAV4 is perfect for our little household, that 4Runner would eat up what little room I have left in that garage.
This bike rack is crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chinese junk no quality control
How so? I use this rack all the time with no issues.
