Although we know that current is decreasing, we didn't take minus sign with di/dt coz the expression we have got after integration, gives complete info about the current and also that it is decreasing. For the time being, assume that we don't know whether current is decreasing or increasing, i.e, di/dt is a totally unknown quantity, now, so we don't care about sign here and the expression we will get finally will be correct if we have not dobe mistakes. This is the same kind of analogy as we give when finding friction force in rotation in several cases, by assuming an arbitrary direction and the answer we get, for friction, is there with sign and gives complete and correct info about direction of friction in actual. value of emf induced by inductor is less than battery emf it resists change in current by producing emf in opposite direction, not completely stopping it
