That’s what’s so powerful about social media and paying attention to your negotiating skills. If you have talent and people like you they can be sidestepped them, because they’ve always been the middleman and now that’s evaporating. It’s nice to see humanity start to take their power back. The music industry is dead as far as rock . Rock is dead because there's not enough album sales to generate the cash flow . Record companies are not going to sign a 5 man band , not enough money to be made and split . Rock bands also need a large road crew , expensive instruments etc. While rap and pop needs a mixing board and a microphone lol .
This is why it's mainly rap and pretty faced solo artists these days . Very few new rock bands make it now . Touring generates money for the Bands that were already established 20 + years ago but they're aging fast . Streaming killed the " potentially big" up and coming Rock Bands .

      Think about it...
An artist is into the art
An artist wants to make art, share it with the world, and make enough to provide and have fun doing it.
The music industry isn't invested in art or the artist. The MI wants to squeeze every drop they can get out of the artist for the sole purpose of making money.
How does that leave the artist and their art in the end?
The MI will pump you and your music so much that you'll become a fad that everyone will get tired of, and the grinding process will destroy your spirit, your love for the art, and your relationships.

Anything you put out is on contract. You dont own it. Russ didnt go independent.... He promoted himself until he already had a little bit of a name and used that to negotiate a better contract where he owns the masters and he gets the royalties and what ever else he wanted. ICP is another example of an artist getting extremely lucky to have success independently, they signed with a small label that quickly got bought out by another label who gave them a small advance for one album, said label renegotiated their contact for more albums and gave them an advance to reflect the change in contract, that same label was bought by one that was owned by Disney who did not want clown faced rappers who rapped about torturing sinners and were more about concept albums then producing singles so they quickly bought out ICPs contract. In one year they were under 3 different labels and after all the advances they received and the payment to terminate their contract they earned 1.5 million. Sign a good contract then 😂
Some artists seem to be thriving signed under Republic Records, but idk everyone's story if they're actually winning big or not.

Makes sense why artists don’t drop music they should be dropping. The labels get in their minds “you’re going to fall off let me take over” then they drop some weird ahh music cause the labels really know nothing and they’ll maximize the most profit out of someone they “think” is falling off but in reality they never were

How’s that comparable to what is being said in the video?! If you were signed and then shelved and they never released your stuff, clearly whatever product you delivered to them was not up to par, even if maybe your demo or mixtape or whatever possibly sounded somewhat promising. So you never had hits, or a breakout album, or a level of fame and popularity to keep up to. And I’m guessing you didn’t really get much money from signing either, if that was the outcome of the situation

This applies to everyone. Contracts exist in 1000s of forms. Buying a house, car, subscribing to websites, your job, your college, joining the military, credit cards, loans, getting medical help, downloading stuff, terms of social media, on an on.
If you want stuff, its more than likely you must first agree to someone elses pre- determined terms and sign, nod, agree, consent, say yes, shake hands or hug and kiss..being 23 is old enuf..yea he was a great artist..but dumb as a rock..like most of us. Dont be greedy, dont follow the carrot on a stick. The less debt you incur..the less beholding you are to others. Debt strangles you, holds you back
