    Here at Permaculture island we have successfully grown potatoes as a herbaceous layer in our forest garden for 10 years. We harvest and leave some in to come back next year, then mulch heavily. They emerge through even the deepest mulches 50cm or more. Enough spuds for year round subsistence and animal fodder, especially mixed with dried stinging nettle.

    Using animals like ducks or chickens also can help the system by fertilizing and pest management.

    Very good, however as a video I think it would be improved by looking around more while you are talking rather than just looking at you... show us the garden!

    I would like to get a printable list of the "layers" of his food forest, and comments on how the experiments are working as in, what worked vs what has not worked..not to do again..Im considering putting a food forest in here in Tulsa Oklahoma..

    Roots partly depend on how many nutrients are on the top of the soil. How deep are apricot roots if there is very little water or fertiliser on the top of the soil? rose macaskei
