22 years later and still interesting. 👍Your home-made animation was great. As noted by others you should not have moved the lever on the side. It is used to switch between regular 8mm and Super 8mm film, before you load the film. I hope you finally got a take up reel. For other folks interested in this model Eumig, it was also sold in US and Canada as a JC Penney type 515, 60 Hz, 117volts. The red lever at the top is for frame adjustment. This projector uses both a rubber belt drive and a chain drive. The weak link in this projector (like so many others) is the plastic switch linkage used to control the functions. It can break and then good luck trying to repair or replace it. Why didn't they just use metal? So many things in the landfill or sitting in the attic, basement, closet, shed, garage because of plastic parts that break.
Thank you! I inherited over 40 boxes of Super 8 film from my family. Can't wait to watch the Queen coming to Toronto in 1959 and me with my grandfather, who I can't remember. This was very helpful!
Brilliant! I just bought one and left the instruction manual at the shop in Manchester. It's quite different from my father's old projector, so this video was a very big help. Many thanks!
many thanks for producing this video. I've been given an old family projector but the drive belt doesn't work so the film wont feed through . However, video was clear and very helpful. thanks
Hi, great, informative video! I have a Eumig S910 which pulls through certain reels, but not others. It seems to like only the type with the smaller perforations & with the sound stripe. Is it not compatible with a certain format? Many thanks.
Thank you very much. I have one that my parents bought but I do not have the instructions manual. If anyone has scanned it and could send it to me as a .pdf, I would be very happy 🙂
Hey what did you use to make that little animation? Cause my main purpose to buy a projector is to make silent film cartoons and I want to know what you used to transfer the cartoon into film
I used the Niso S480 super 8 camera to make the animation. It had a function where you can photograph one frame of film at a time which is how stopmotion and traditional animation is done. There are also many conputer programmes such as after effects and flash that create animation now too.
Hi Victor, I wondered if you can help me.. Like Philip Hardy on here, I was given a Eumig Mark 501 cine projector - I know his post was 2011 - a long time ago - but I found the video very helpful and well -presented. The only thing I have a problem with is the picture. All I am getting on mine is a white light and no picture projection. The film is running properly, all seems good - but there's nothing but a white light on the screen.. I have tried adjusting the focus - makes no difference, still no picture. Any help would be appreciated - many thanks! Paul
@@mikebeswick3420 the switch he say is paus at 7:11, it´s not, it´s changes from singel 8 or normal 8, to super 8. So it do paus becuse it is the wrong format. Or that is how mine works anyway.
Hi Cossie, I have got a Eumig 501 The machine is in good working order except for the feeder at the very top arm of the machine. The film doesn't move in forward motion. However, it does move on rewind. There is only one drive belt which is working. Does anyone know whether these machines are supposed to have 'two' belts. Perhaps the belt that is missing on my machine is what drives the film forward? Thanks in advance Dominic
This projector only has one rubber drive belt, although with two matching pulleys it looks like two identical belts could be installed. The front (supply) and rear (take-up) reels are driven by gears and a chain. There is a chain tensioner to remove the slack in the chain. Perhaps your chain has come of the sprockets (gears)?
Hi, thank you. Unfortunately, I'm not much of an authority on different projector models, sorry. I was going to post you some website links here but you can't post links in comments apparently. I just searched on google for Eumig S910 and quite a bit of info came up :)
a mark 501 is both super 8 and regular 8! you have a little knob to switch from both standards. also when the take up reel has not enough force you should adjust the friction coupling on the take up axle. not to much because he will then pull the film to agresively trhough the gate!

Thanks for posting this. I really needed that clear demonstration.
Many thanks indeed! I've found out that it is single 8 and super 8 only! Just need a standard 8 now to cover the lot. Thanks again!
Awsome! Now I know how the old Mark-501 that I found works! This video was very helpful. Thank You!

Philip, THANK YOU!!!! Now I can show my grandparents their vacation tapes from ye old days! Awesome animations btw :D
Really useful I have just bought one in a bulk 8mm buy. So let’s see if it works now.
Thanks for the help. I have the instruction booklet but it's all stuck together and useless.

Hello, I was wondering that can the Eumig Mark 501 can play any Super 8 8mm film and just it has sound??
I don't know about Super 8 and sound sorry Sam

Sorry, that was meant for Erik above you in the comments!
I was wondering too. Too bad you did not get an answer...
Not paus, you change film format from singel 8 to super 8. Why it stop is becuse the holes are diffrend from the two formats. Nice video
Sorry. What do you mean about the pause.

The S-N switch is for Super8 or Standard8, not pause.
cheers
@Junafani awww you should MAKE your own film. Super 8 is beautiful x

How do I change the take-up spool to standard 8mm?
+Mike Walker .. no need to the take up spool will accept both
Thanks David!
@dominic crozet: there is only one rubber belt and one metal chain!
