    I totally understand and respect where Harry Tam is coming from. If you are locked up in an institution and your carers are beating the crap out of you, did you choose that? Why do people imagine that most average human beings who are subject to that kind of trauma will become healthy law-abiding contributors to a system that already seems to punish and predate on you at so many levels?

  • @nesianrugby
    @nesianrugby 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    “…because I’ve had that label, you’re not gonna trust me”
    Same argument from honest social workers who have been let down by the bad eggs in the profession.

    • @KRZMA01
      @KRZMA01 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry NesianRugby. I’m trying to understand your statement. I’m not judging but looking to understand your korero a bit more. Are you able to elaborate further?

    • @nesianrugby
      @nesianrugby 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@KRZMA01 all good - Tam says his (and other gang members) gang background makes people sceptical of their intentions to now do good.
      Yet he holds the same sceptical view of social workers in the system.
      So he wants the public to trust him on one hand, while not taking his own medicine on the other.

    • @Pastaaa204
      @Pastaaa204 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nesianrugby uh no not exactly, his point was to explore/ try to understand why they distrust those authoritative figures. Based off personal experiences, trauma does form bias. That being a lower view on social workers due to the lack of protection and diligence on the governments behalf in terms of regulating their behaviours in the past. I think its more a lack of faith in how social workers were and are regulated, making sure no child abuse, solicitation etc is taking place. The government is who he actually has a problem with not the social workers specifically, but they were the perpetrators of crimes against them, aswell as the enabling authorities. Unfortunately workers used to steal from the state homes for their own families and those abused were told to be great full. However, he has acknowledged the progress and changes the government and crown has made to the system over the years, so hed be able to ascertain that not all social workers are the same. However he is able to sympathise with those who cant drop that bias.
      And i think thats the distinction. Yes, the public may have a certain view of gangs but tbh most arent personal experiences and if they are they tend to place greater importance on the injustice they have been faced with. For example, a gang member could be your neighbour and youre really only going to see the patch, not the addiction and trauma thats making them lash out. But youd view a pakeha neighbour lashing out in the same way for the same reasons as less of a danger, bc theres no patch. theres an inherent need from the media to villianise the mongrel mob, instead of focusing on the individual bad seeds and the enabling factors. The Mongrel Mob wants to be able to make change were its needed and wanted, to rectify their wrongs as the government has had a chance to many time over

    BS we are all born with a brain, it is up to the individual to bloody use it, No funding should go to ANY gangs, however money should go towards education & trade skills, I was a slow learner at school, absolutely hated school, so they started up work experience and the whole class went out working 1 day a week, get kids interested in something they want to do, more life skills.

      Why BS? Did you even listen to the man? This is not BS; he is talking truthfully about the human condition. Not everybody has the same biological makeup, life experiences, and reactions to those experiences. Not everyone can be great functional automatons of social pressure like you apparently are.
