    Cactus gloves I use, found here: amzn.to/3Wxzj7A
    When dealing with any kind of cactus rot, you will have to cut the rot portion off. The most important part of letting it callous “dry out” where the cut was made to allow it to form roots over time in the soil.
    Plant rescues can take a long time to see results but even small progress is a BIG deal around here.

      I was gifted a little baby beef with a glued on flower. Any recommendations on how to remove it without damaging the cactus? It looks like hot glue underneath.

    • @riftryn
      @riftryn ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mandylou2501unfortunately that’s how most are put on.
      You could try carefully working the glue off but it could harm the beef beneath. They’re not harmful to the cactus but you could maybe find a safe goo gone if there is any

      @@mandylou2501 I will say that the couple times I've pulled off a fake flower, eventually spines grew back in the same spot and I could never tell. it probably does depend on the kind of beef you have though. definitely does help to take the fake flower off though!

      technically, plants also make flowers as last huraah before they die off - reason why sometimes in orchards they make lot of cuts on apple tree which they know wont survive to force it to make one big last huraah of flowering and bunch of apples - but yeah, was cute:D

    Congratulations! 🌺 I went to a few horticultural society sales this past weekend, and someone was selling some cactuses that are native to our area (southern Ontario, Canada - yes, it's a thing!), and it was only $2 for a BIG piece. And I shouted "Look at that big beef!" and bought quite a bit. I don't think my mom wants to bring me out in public anymore 😅

    My son did all the same steps you have. He always brought in rescue plants. Now I understand the why's. I got sooo excited when our little guys began blooming. Our flowers were red. Love yours lol I didn't know flowers were glued on and got excited when 2 different types grown on top of the other. Lol sent him pictures and he called back saying they were glued! Color me red! Yes so cool when babies grow. I drown & sunburned my rosemary 😕 hoping to revive it back to its beauty.
    PS each visit he rearranged our balcony cactus garden. Nearly blind so didn't notice when he brought in that special freak lol guess he wanted me to enjoy without all the pokes. Miss my son & our balcony garden.

      my tips for you í don't over-water (making the soil too damp and all wet) use a wooden stick to poke it in the soil once in awhile, if the stick is clean then the water is dry and if the stick changes color and has abit of dirt on it then it's not dry. I used to kill every plant I owned, even cactus and snake plants and ZZ plants, but I'm still learning. My ficus trinagularis variegata is still thriving :) For starter plants don't get succulents. Get plants that need alot of water and thrive in low light/indirect environments. They'll be easier to manage, such as fittonia

    It’s so hard for me to comprehend the whole “callus over” concept! I don’t know if it’s just my medical training but I think of a callus on a plant like a scab on our skin. So it’s hard for me to think that once a plat has callused over that it will then be able to let new growth from new roots come through the callus and grow! Like when you have a large cut that wasn’t closed properly and it healed up but left a gap, the doc has to the excise both edges to make it a fresh cut and bring the skin together so it’s fresh and the blood vessels can heal together. I don’t know how to explain how I see it in my mind but it’s just bizarre and I know she’s right it’s just taking some getting use to! Lol! Like I always thought after you cut off root rot or something that it was best to put it in water or soil right away so it could start to “heal” and let the roots come through BEFORE it calluses (scabs). Lol. God I’m so weird lol.
