I love to pick up those old fashion church cook books from the thrift stores. You dont see to many of them anymore. Real recipes from real people. Many have been pasted down tru families. 😊
I, too, love cookbooks! I had to relocate thousands of books but love baking and cooking from cookbooks, having and holding them, learning about food, reading them like a novel, lol, smelling them. I have a cookbook from 1945, Mushroom Cookery by Rosetta (my granny's name) Reitz. It's full of great recipes and clean ingredients. I will keep it always. I have 365 days od chicken, and pasta. I always wanted some of the others.
Hello Lynn, I am a cookbook lover as well. I love cookbooks so much I built by hand a floor to ceiling 6 foot wide, 14 inched deep and 9 foot tall book shelf. I stained it myself and rubbed the finish fine. I ever used special gold screws with covers to finish it off. I packed that book shelf with cookbooks from around the world and yes I cook dishes from many countries and cultures. That is not the only book shelf I have filled with books. I prefer books to the internet being an older woman, but I also print recipes I want to try from online sources. I make my own bar soap, sew, needlework, and craft. I am doing a junk journal to mark the arrival of my first grandchild. I also start my own seeds and garden from which I eat and preserve my foods, herbs and edible flowers. I enjoy your podcast when I have time to watch it. Thank you for what you do.
I love cook books and have more than I need, but when I was going to box a lot of them up for my niece, my son, who does not cook, said he really wanted them because someday he was going to have to cook, and I had written comments in them about who we served this item to and if it was a keeper etc. I will still buy cookbook, but mostly at thrift stores. You have intrigued me with the Bowtie and Sausage casserole by Amy Maryon. I am going to see if I can find it on the internet. Thanks for this great cook book visit, Lynn. Y'all have a Blessed weekend.
We moved to our new house 1 yr ago Mother's Day. I still am going through boxes trying to organize and sort. I bought a cube shelf for my boys' closet, but they actually needed a shelf. So I got a metal shelf unit in both the boys' closet and the girls' closet. Our closets are just empty holes lol So I took the cube shelf and put it in my kitchen by my hutch that holds my vintage/ antique pyrex dishes and I put cookbooks there. And some glass baking pans on a couple shelves. I have 4 cube shelves full of cook books. I also decorate with them as well. I have some of the Oldest cookbooks as kitchen decor on the counter. I know I still have boxes of some more somewhere lol But these were all in my cabinet by my stove in the last house that was my cookbook cabinet. These cabinets were different here in the new house and couldn't fit books. Cant fit anything taller than a 24oz jar of spaghetti sauce. Very skinny cabinets with tiny shelves. Had to get creative with where to put things.
I have a crazy cookbook collection an couple hundred cookbooks. I use to work in hotel kitchens.I love the ones where you get other peoples notes and their recipes that they include.
I ordered the same canning book because of Janelle recommending it so highly. I love cookbooks so very much and collect them as well. I recently found a great condition Joy of Cooking tossed on the ground at a share site. Happy to say the least! ❤ 🤗
I collect cookbooks too! My mom bought me the Taste of home ones for years and I’m like you hit the thrift/yard sales plus try to get one from every place we visit. Have Tara’s dining on a dime, Amish and church cookbooks too.
Great share, Lynn. It's funny that I've been planning on sharing some of the recipes from our cookbooks for awhile. I had even taken pictures of the books so that I could write a community post and never shared it. lol. Anyway, you inspired me to go ahead and start sharing some of those recipes in upcoming videos. 💕
Hi Lynn! I have been a cookbook junkie for decades! All types, sizes, ethnicities, regions…I can go on! My nieces have also grabbed some to start their library-didn’t even make a dent! I have a lot of the cookbook you showed! I’m actually going to the used book store tomorrow to see what’s new! I also print out recipes. Thanks for sharing!
My cookbooks have no place to go other than the thrift store. My nieces and sisters have their own collection and my daughter-in-law the same. But no worries I enjoy them when I have them I will continue to use them until I can’t.🙂
Just a couple of seconds in.. I love cookbooks. Like the Actual book in my hands. I also just caught a glimpse of a book in your video & was like Oh I have that one! Dining on a Dime cookbook One of my very first cookbooks
She didn't sign my book. I got it at the book sale at my first job at a daycare. They had some books out on a table and I bought a bunch of cookbooks. My first cookbooks 💝 I was in HS
I have cook books galore, too, but many I just cannot part with. When the pandemic began, I learned to can and have many Ball canning books, my sister in NY gave me my First Ball canning book and I love it! I also have herbal, medicinal, and perennial plant books that have gobs of extra good info in them. Do you like to sew, Lynn?
Oh absolutely medicinal cookbooks is some thing I need to get. I can’t wait to learn how to do tinctures. Sewing is both of my sisters expertise. My one sister is a seamstress and can make anything out of anything. My other sister has a beautiful home with homemade curtains and table cloths, etc. My mom also is a sewer. Me… and Sewing machines just don’t like each other… Lol
I have a Very Sidetracked mind. I'm good with a cookbook bc there's the page and recipe. When I try searching recipes on my phone I end up down a rabbit hole and then I'm on fb and TH-cam and I get a notification for something else. Then I'm like oh Yea I needed Silicone molds and then I'm searching through a thousand different options and end up on Walmart looking for girls bathing suits and by then I forgot about the silicone cupcake molds until I try to get the paper off my muffin lol And I'm like oh Yea that's what I was trying to buy. And then I'm like oh Yea I was looking for another flavor of muffins recipe. So yea. Lol Books in my hands are good lol
