wait until I analyze this whole song in depth okay I'm back and also I lied it isn't in depth but basically my interpretation of the song is someone questioning the cycle of abuse. "you're always so bright, it hurts always calling out to me show me how to set myself free before I become a devotee" basically her saying that the path for her future is already paved by her past (also emphasized in the line "hanging above me, the played out story"). she wants to be set free from this path and doesn't want to end up like her abuser(s). "the lighter side is... something inside me? don't be scared girl it's just your body isn't it useless? for me to continue on like this?" her realizing (or being told by a peer) that the solution to breaking the pattern is her and her own will. nobody else can help her if she doesn't make the effort herself. the lighter side truly is something inside of her. the second line seems to be a peer (or maybe "the moon" in the symbolism of the song!) telling her that she shouldn't be scared, because this is just her body. she feels fed up with herself for reacting only with negativity as a defense mechanism, but whoever(whatever) is telling her this is reminding her that even though her actions are her own responsibility, she shouldn't be scared of facing the issue head on, because she doesn't hold any control over her feelings. she even goes on to ask herself "why am I sorry?" as if pushing this narrative. "desolate, in an altered state use your voice and become a crescendo less human every day, feel another force at play submit yourself to their will now" this line shows her questioning her humanity. "desolate, in an altered state" desolate literally refers to something devoid of humanity and of "bleak and dismal emptiness" and the line following directly after "in an altered state" which I believe is her saying she may have been human at one point but is in such an altered state she can never return to the point of "humanity" "use your voice and become a crescendo" is an interesting line as well that I'm probably way overanalyzing. but basically, a crescendo is gradually reaching the highest point in a certain sound. so like the absolute peak. it's interesting how Gumi no longer seperates her humanity and the things she does. in this line technically instead of saying "become a crescendo" logically she would say "reach a crescendo" however her issues have become so bad she is no longer able to define herself by her humanity. since the crescendo she is reaching is the most intensive thing she is doing at that moment, that's all she can feel herself in. in that moment, she IS a crescendo. "less human everyday, feel another force at play" like most of this song is, this line questions her ability of free will. in Gumi's mind her not having free will is basically like her not being a human being. "submit yourself to their will now" literally her just telling herself to give up and succumb to her thoughts. I also really like the line "souls grow weary trapped inside a body" but I'm unsure how to insert it into my theory so this is just like an honorable mention "the limelight’s like a birthright" I love this line so much I wanna eat it anyways this line describes how Gumi feels like she was born broken, and being broken is a "birthright". also, limelight is being the center of public attention, so basically she's saying tha in the same way that the results of her abuse feel like a birthright, the reactions of the public to her trauma responses also feel like a birthright. great line anyways "even alone I'll never go back home my moon that hues my nightmares" she will always have the memories of her trauma. it will never un-happen to her just by her recovering. even if she recovers, she'll never fully return to what she once was "where am I running? always above me, even when I'm hurting without relief, I live in highlight grief I've really become weak..."
